I usually play MMO RPGs on my PC and stuff like that and I haven't ever tried games on the PC that aren't MMO RPGs except this Star Trek game when I was really little that I can't remember. I've heard a lot of positive things about Portal 2, but I'm still unsure whether to buy it or not since I'm new to games like it. Can I have a quick summing up of the game Portal 2 from those who have played it? Thanks for helping if you do decide to comment.DoctorWho88
I strongly recommend playing Portal1 also (shouldn't take more than 3-5 hours). Without spoiling too much your kind of a lab rat and you are given a portal gun that allows you to open 2 portals an Enter and Exit. It allows you other objects to go from point A to B in an instant. You use the portal gun to solve puzzles while getting some amusing dialogue from a robot coercing you through the course.
Hope that helps :D
The original Portal is a free download on Steam, try it and if you like it, then definitely give Portal 2 a shot. Portal 2 does everything that Portal 1 did, but only better.
Both Portals are worth Full retail launch day price nevermind what they are on sale for now. Buy it and love it
No it isnt. It was free for a short while but not afterwards. The original Portal is a free download on Steam, try it and if you like it, then definitely give Portal 2 a shot. Portal 2 does everything that Portal 1 did, but only better.

It's worth it even for $15. Very unique gameplay plus an awesome story, great characters and voice acting. The single player is about 10 hours and the multiplayer is about 8 hours, so you get your money's worth. Also there's developer commentary and challenge modes (least portals, fastest time) for some replay value. It's a game you will come back to years down the line just to experience it again and maybe show to friends.
Only if you like doing chores while robots with annoying voices crack jokes around you. Unfunny jokes IMO, but IMMV.
The challenge comes from figuring out the order in which to place portals as only a few surfaces support portals. If that sounds like fun please go ahead and buy it.
I suppose the coop campaign is fun. Never tried it. But the SP is a turd.

Buy and finish both Portal games. Portal 2 was my personal GOTY and I am sure after playing it you will soon come to realise why I and many others think the same.
Unfunny jokes IMO, but IMMV.

Unfunny jokes? The Wheatley and GLADOS dialogue was freaking hilarious. I even loved the voice work done by the good and defective turrets. The part where the good turrets start getting disposed of and they yell "Why???" as they are flying into the incinerator, hilarious.

I can't stand Wheatley's voice actor. I haven't finished the game but I only remember one funny part - the one where birds attack him. As for GLADOS, she was either boring or annoying. When she kept repeating that lame adoption joke I felt like punching my monitor :( And the turrets did the same thing in the first game lol
I would like someone to prove that there's more challenge to the game than figuring out the order in which to place portals. I'm not even allowed to experiment. I expected more multi-solution puzzles or confusing areas instead of having to look for the white squares. Every room telegraphs the solution and I just have to figure out the order in which to do things.

Doesn't sound like you played much of the game. There is more to the game than just the portals, some other gameplay mechanics are introduced. I don't want to ruin it for TC. As far as Wheatley goes, if you don't like the voice actor, there's not much you can do about that. Needless to say, I thought his voice acting and sarcastic Monty Python-esque humor was fantastic. GLADOS is completely different this time around, again, if you didn't play then entire game than you wouldn't know this. Also, you're not really in rooms anymore, sure at the beginning but it completely changes and you travel through the vast underground of Aperture. Anyway, maybe you should give it another shot.I played the first hours and then saw much of the second half at a friend's house. I know the twists and gameplay mechanics. And it's still a simplistic and tedious puzzle game IMO.
The thing that kills most puzzle games for me is that you're only allowed to think like the designers intend. I'm not that kind of person unfortunately. I wish I could like this game as I thought Narbacular Drop and Portal were pretty cool, but to me it was a waste of money.
I wish Valve had the balls to take some risks but they played it way too safe with Portal 2.

What does that even mean? I would think that would be obvious given the nature of what a puzzle is. And the exact same mechanics were present in Portal 2 that were in the original Portal...
Have you never played a Valve game before?

A good puzzle game should have multiple solutions IMO. Or at least allow me to experiment a bit. The first game allowed me to try and go nuts with portals instead of having three white portal-supporting squares in the whole room.
I played Valve games before they decided extreme focus testing and exploiting lame memes is the best way to make games.

Watching some youtube videos on-line I believe there are multiple solutions to many (maybe not all) of the puzzles. I certainly did things differently than many of the videos I've seen.
Wrong. It was free when Steam was released on Mac and also I think they put it for free once again this year but now you must pay for it.The original Portal is a free download on Steam, try it and if you like it, then definitely give Portal 2 a shot. I didn't so much notice it in the SP, but definitely in the MP. There were a few different ways to figure out the puzzles.
No need to hate on Baranga though. If he doesn't like the game, he doesn't like it. His dislike of the game does not take away from how awesome I thought the game was. Just gotta realize that everyone has different tastes.

easy, its not just about portals because you have to figure out the gel properties and light beams and where and how to use them to get to the next part of the board. portal 1 was all about portals....portal 2 is figuring out how to solve problems with portals. you cannot simply say that portal 2 was simply about portals if youre beaten the game...either you youtubed a walkthrough or you played it and just never got to that part yourself[QUOTE="Baranga"]

agreed. i found multiple ways to complete a lot of the puzzles in the game, especially during the gels section...
