LMAO! I know exactly how you feel! I just pre-purchased the Orange Box and man I'm left in awe at the great deal that it is. So many games for the price of one!

It's easy for me - Since I've already tried TF2 through the beta, and I was more hyped for Portal from the very begining, then Portal will be the first I'll play. Can't wait. :DI've already played TF2 and considering Portal is fairly short (4ish hours), I think i'll just blast through that before I begin that goodness that is Half-Life 2 Ep 2.Subacious
Well since Episode2 is mean't to enlighten the gamer more on Portal than Portal does its probably a good idea to play Episode2 first then Portal.

Portal is supposed to be about 3-4 hours of play time, where as Episode 2 is going to be closer to ten hours of play time as far as I know.
I've got a big theory of how Portal links into the HalfLife universe that i can't get out of my head lol.
But yeah i'm actually looking forward to this the most in the OrangeBox, it looks really really cool :D!

1. Ok what is your theory?
2. Finally a like-minded person! Everyone else just talks about Ep.2 but to tell the truth, Portal was kinda the deal maker for me. I want that game sooo bad!!
Well I haven't played any HL games up to the Orange Box, and don't really have time to go back and play games I missed... So can sombody summerize the story up to the first HL game included in the Orange Box?
Be sure to put it in spoiler tags or PM me.
Thanks a ton if anyone does this.

Just play them your missing out on an AMAZING experience. Seriously do your self a favour and play at least HL2 and EP1 (your getting them in the OB anyways). Just read up on the first one if you don't know the story its not as important, watch some videos on youtube that explain the story or watch a speed run :).
Btw. wouldn't it be better to play Portal then EP2 so Portal is more of a mystery and the story isn't ruined by playing EP2 and figuring out all the stuff?

Hey bro I'm in the exact same situation! so would someone be willing to tell me too? :P thanks in advance
i just figured that i'd be able to jump right in with hl2 even though i've never played hl1. maybe that's why i don't have all the hype for ep.2 cuz i haven't actually played a hl game haha

Ok here it goes, but remember its a theory about a storyline/game that hasn't been finished/released lol
Back in HalfLife we see the Black Mesa Research Facility secretly looking into portal technology in New Mexico. And they were successful in creating this technology managing to go into different worlds/dimensions and bringing back fauna and organic life. Then of course the resonance cascade happened and aliens from Xen start pouring through, and the portal storms start. My memory is somewhat shadey over the details here (been awhile since i played HL1) so i assume at some point after this the combine come and invade through these portals.
Now skip to HalfLife 2 where we see that the combine utilise the same portal technology found in Black Mesa, they can teleport from different worlds in their empire. But once on a planet the portal technology they use can't transport them from A to B on a planet, they have to use local transport (land, sea, air). We then find out that the resistance have cracked this "local" portal technology and built a device to teleport from A to B on a planet. While the combine have built a similar device in Nova Prospekt but its more like a prototype thats unstable and doesn't work effectively, so its pretty much useless unless the combine get their hands on the resistance device to fix their own. But this gets destroyed when Gordon and Alyx blow up Nova Prospekt, and ultimately any information the combine had saved in the citadel gets wiped out too when the citadel goes BOOM!
Now here is where my theory gets interesting, fast forward to Episode1 :P
Remember the message Judith Mossman sends to Eli and Kleiner saying she "i think we found it" and it looks like she is in some derelict bunker/base. And she is seen wearing a winter coat and when the combine ambush and the camera pans to where the combine came from, it looks white outside furthering my idea wherever she is its somewhere near snow or a cold enviroment. Also remember the communication package Alyx and Gordon copy when in the citadel in Episode1? well Alyx has read it but she never tells you whats in it only that its majorly important and her father needs it so you both need to get it to Eli ASAP. Its importance is also emphasised by the massive combine interest in you two, they follow you right to the very end of the game while ignoring the other resistance and humans escaping city17.
I believe that communications package has the details regarding a rival to the BlackMesa team when they were doing portal research and that rival was Aperture Science. The group that are involved in the Portal game since Portal is set in the "Aperture Science Enrichment Center". My guess is that Aperture found out how to make "local" teleportation technology, like we've seen in the Portal trailers, and the combine have found out about this and want to utilise Aperture's findings to perfect their own teleportation technology. With it they'd be able to send armies anywhere on the planets they conquer. Thats why the package Alyx and Gordon copied was so important to the combine, because without City17's citadel they have a comms blackout worldwide and no way to get reinforcements on earth. With the local teleportation technology from Aperture the combine could begin to re-establish control and rebuild their off world teleportation device. Because right now their stranded on earth with no communications with the other cities and no hope of reinforcements from other combine worlds.
Also i have a feeling with Aperture's technology the resistance may be able to mobilise better in eradicating the combine stuck on earth. Or possibly use it to remove them permanently since the combine arrived via portal storms anyway. This bit i still haven't come to a good conclusion about yet, all i can imagine is that the resistance would do anything to stop the combine gaining this information. Because right now as the games plot is, the resistance have the upper hand and have a real chance of fighting to regain their planet.
As for the Portal game itself there is a number of theories, that portal is set in a Combine controlled lab or that its the GMAN's base of operations. I'm not going to speculate a theory about Portal itself, as i haven't got one lol. But i have speculated my theory of how Portal links into the HalfLife universe because it has been stated by Valve that Portal is set in the HalfLife universe.
EDIT - I did read an article somewhere that Episode3 is possibly set on a ship stuck in a frozen sea and that this is where Portal will become plot important to the player. Thats why i made the emphasis that Judith is somewhere cold and that the thing she found could possibly be this ship, or the where abouts of the Aperture facility that Portal is set in.
Cant find any vids. They're all "Half Life 2 Episode 1 spoilers" when I typed "Half Life 1 spoilers" and "half life spoilers" in pokeracc
Download one of these videos, its a speed run for the original Half Life and basically contains all the vital story parts. Its entertaining to watch too, enjoy:

And yes OB is 100% compatible with vista go here to see how well you can run it:

Personally I am more looking forward to Portal to see what modders can do with the tools to create new maps to play. Puzzles are great to play and figure out the first time, but if you repeatedly play a puzzle it becomes a bit boring as you know how to finish it very quickly.
