Greetings.

I want to share my story of portal.

I read the review of portal on gamespot, saw videos, gameplay screenshots, and still was hearing everybody saying that was a great game, one of the top games ever played, and really fell sorry for those people (kiddin), (not) ^^ , anyway, before playing and buying it, I heard the credits music, and in that time I though, ok, tha's a good music, I really enjoyed, but I got over that pretty quickly.

Anyway, I bought the game, and oh my god, I never played a game like this! Ok, I love crysis, I love Cod4, there's a bunch of games that I love for specific reasons, but come on, with a so simple concept, with a huge sense of humor, and so simple levels as well as graphics, I really didn't believe that Portal could be this fun.

Conclusion: This game rules. When I finished the game and hearing that nostalgic song, I'm not saying that I started crying, but I had that feeling... those butterflys in the stomach, you know what I'm talking, and damn it was deep. Portal has a strange, unique and quite beautiful story behind it. Yes! It is a shame that is so short, but somehow that makes it special, and eager for more.

Just wanted to share my portal story, a game to be remembered, and be played four years from now.

Take care.

While I love Portal, I think it's fair to recognise its shortcomings too. If it weren't for the writing (which carries the entire game), and the originality of the concept (though obviously Narbacular Drop is the game on which Portal is based, so Portal has little claim to genuine originality) Portal just wouldn't be all that great.

I mean, their internal testing must've either been done by people who are absolutely stupid, or just aren't gamers - who can't think like we do. If you listen to the audio commentary, they seemed to have great trouble encouraging people to do such simple things... like the concept of momentum. Ninety percent of the game is just one big training mission, which could have probably been condensed into ten minutes.

Aside from the writing, which is pure genius, and the atmosphere of the environment, Portal just isn't a very good game. It's a string of puzzles that are more procedural than cognitive - you don't have to figure it out as much as just doing it. It's not really a puzzle game... or if it is, it's puzzles for pre-teens. It's great that we're doing something we've never done before... but what it is that we're doing... it's just not all that good. In one of the trailers, one of the soundbytes used was GlaDOS saying this next test is impossible. I went into the game expecting a real puzzle game - a real challenge. I was more than pleasantly surprised to find out that it was a comedy game more than anything else, but still... it was a disappointment.

I do love Portal, I think The Orange Box as a whole is one of the finest games of 2007, and Portal plays a significant role in my opinion, but I just dearly wish that there was more to the game that some brilliant writing - though, admittedly, that is more than enough to carry the entire game.

I just think there was a lot of wasted potential in Portal, and replaying harder versions of the maps I'd already played didn't do it for me.

Portal is a very good game. A lot of humor in the game that I was not expecting. The game however is very short. I beat it under 4 hrs.

Yes, Portal is one of my favorite games. I recommend you try some custom maps. Shmitzchamber 01, Remmiz Test Chambers, Logic Portals : Levels [00-02].v3 [03].v1, and the NovMapPack are probably the must haves. On Gamespot, there is also Ren Test 2 which was pretty cool.

Yeah I downloaded Portal to see what everyone was fussing over and was surprised by how fun it is.

Funny? I haven't seen too much humor, but I'm only on level 16. Reccomeneded!

Portal is the single most unique, humorous, entertaining, fun, and well made games I have EVER played for the PC. I enjoy listening to the seemingly ironc humor in GLaDoS' lines. I would recommend that anyone with access to a computer capable of playing Source engine based games should DEFINITELY buy portal. It is well worth the money!
