My friend has had an issue with BF:BC2's frame rate and I think it is his CPU (his GPU is the 8800GT 1GB). His current CPU is the AMD Athlon x2 5000+. It is a socket type of AM2 and so I'm trying to find him another AM2 CPU so that he doesn't need to get a new mobo. Is this one good?

If you guys could suggest an AM2 CPU that is better than that 6000+ in the link, then please provide it. Cost shouldn't be too big of a deal since these are all fairly old CPUs.

It's would be better to just OC until he can get his hands on a new mobo. Also his GPU may very well be the problem. Keep in mind that the recommended GPU for that game is a GTX 260.

To be honest, that requirement is bull. I have a GTS 250 and run it on all max settings expect for AA - and very well. I have a friend with an 8600 GT and he runs it fine. Save your friend the money, arto. Get him to switch Bad Company 2 to DX9. Massive performance gain. And, if he already hasn't, disable HBAO.

I just upgraded from an 5000+ myself to a phenom II x4 925 on a socket am2+ mobo with no problems.

or get a Phenom II X3 720 which I heard Is really good and you can unlock the 4th core on certain mobos.

Both are way better than a 5000+

or just oc it like xerox said....

In the beta, he had this issue and I did change it to DX9 and turned all settings down, but the FPS still drop but only when he looks at certain parts of maps. In the final retail version, it still does it but I have yet to put it in DX9 mode. Again, I don't think it is his GPU, he had it with 4x aa and when we took aa off, there was no gain in his FPS, this is why I think it is his CPU.

He doesn't want to overclock, I have suggested it many times, but he is "scared" I'll break his PC. This is why I just wanted to get him a new CPU that fits the AM2 socket. I wish the mobo had support for AM2+ but just AM2.
