Possible Oblivion-ish Lord of the Rings game coming soon?

"What are the odds of another Lord of the Rings game making an impact on the current video game market? Well, the matter is definitely still being pondered by EA. Announcing a massive lineup of titles for the company's fiscal 2009, Electronic Arts included a brand new Lord of the Rings game, but no further details were revealed for the time being.

Back in March 2007, EA officially extended their license with Tolkien Enterprises and New Line Cinema to continue churning out new games based on the popular fantasy trilogy, as well as Peter Jackson's movies.

EA did have a LotR video game in the works, a free-roam Oblivion-ish RPG entitled The White Council, albeit it was put on "indefinite hold."

There are very few details, but personally, i love the idea.

Why couldn't they just make a Lord of the Rings game based on the movies running on the Oblivion Engine. How good would that be!!biggest_loser

Anything with the LotR storyline with an oblivion-remake would be better than this shadows of Angmar-MMO crap...

or the apparent official LOTR games based on the film. I played the demo of one of them: return of the king?

You play as ol' man gandalf and you have one screen to move around on where you button bash monsters...fun.

Frodo: Yeah, but first I am gonna help this old woman find her cat, kill these dogs harassing a young boy, clear a cavern of ghosts for some woman, do all the warrior guild quests and try and get infected with vampirism, then maybe I'll do the main quest arc. Okay, beardie?

Gandalf: But we don't have time!

Frodo: Well, if I'm level 3, then so is Sauron, so I think we're okay for now.

-and c'mon, what's the point of an Oblivion style LOTR game? I've got so many LOTR mods for Oblivion, I've got a kick ass flaming horse (which you know, is a horse...ON FIRE!!), witch king helmet and oversized sword, ringwraith gear, dragon mount, etc. etc. - No need for this game lol.

Yea, I think this game is a tad bit pointless. There's a huge conversion mod underway for Oblivion that turns the whole of it into a Middle Earth world. It's looking pretty good so far from what has been shown and released.

Pshhhht. Sorry to burst your little WoW bubble, or whatever crappy mmo bubble that you have. EQ2, and LotRo are the only two mmo's on the market, as of right now, that dont feel and play like WoW. Sorry if other want to be different from the 11 million that play that garbage, we just play mmo's that are more challenging.
