Got myself one of those plugin wattage meters so I can see how much power my rig is actually pulling under load and thought I'd share my results.

This is at idle/desktop

Idle

The rest are during the different sections of 3dmark.

GPU clocks at 1189 CPU 4.7 1st section
GPU clocks at 1189 CPU 4.7 1st section

GPU clocks at 1320 and CPU still at 4.7 1st Section

So the conclusion is that my PSU is enough.

Bearing in mind that I am using a custom bios that can give up to 440w per card.

It's nice to see some real world results

so... what components are you actually running in there?

anyway, that's crazy high even for SLI/CF setup. then again, you have OC'd everything and it includes the about 20% waste power of PSU.

e: actually not that high afterall. you could run that rig fine with a high quality 700W PSU.

I always try to explain to people that the average computer uses less energy than a light bulb. They never believe me. Now, your PC isn't exactly average, but even so that's two light bulbs at idle.

Me too. You see people buying 1200 watt psu's for rigs like mine. You just don't need it.

I'll do another run later to see what it's like at stock.

I got a similar device to what you have there, and it turns out the wattage meter in my UPS isn't very accurate (I knew something was wrong when it tried telling me my HTPC wasn't using any power). It's off by about 50-100W, depending on the load.

Anyway, I tried the same test as you and got the following results.

Idle: ~110W

1st section: ~450W

2nd section: ~440W

3rd section: ~180W

4th section: ~460W

EDIT: Forgot I haven't bothered re-making my sig.

3570K @4.4GHz, Z77 Fatal1ty Pro, SLI 670s @1150MHz, one SSD, two HDDs, H110, eight Bitfenix Spectre Pros, all running off an AX750.

How long do you reckon it will take before your PSU can't deliver enough anymore?

That's a lot of power on load, especially if you're put on tier 4 by the electric company =/

That's why they banned incandescent bulbs in the US(conflicting information on this).

as the transistor size gets smaller, the power consumption goes lower too. basicly future components should require even less power.

Yeah mine must be sucking up about 300 watt on load, surprised at just how low the idle power is. Very nice indeed, might try and see just how low I can get my idle consumption down for a mini challenge.

Well... I mean, the average PC does not have dual 780s in SLI . Most people just have plain crappy intel GPUs and an average CPU that isn't overclocked.

Not maybe 5 years of use? :P

But it might not be the case though...

I'll most likely replace it by then anyway.

Edit: Just did a run with GPU's at stock ( 941MHz )

CPU still @ 4.7GHz

Test 1 = 580 watts

Test 2 = 550 Watts

Test 4 = 630 Watts

Goes to show that OC'ing really does use a lot more power. If I wasn't OC'ing I could get away with a decent 650-700 watts PSU.

Food for thought.;)

@acanofcoke: How did your temps drop when you "delidded" your CPU? I've been curious about trying this myself.
