Finally the 4870 has moved down in CAN pricing from $300-$370 to $230-$270. I think this is because of the new 4890 arrival. Just as an announcement to canadians

Cheapest pricing for 4870(1GB) on sites.

TigerDirect (listed above)- $224.99

NewEgg- $222.99

NCIX- $239.99

CanadaComputers- $265.99

DirectCanada- $202.95

*Sigh of relief* Finally, I have something to look forward to (good pricing).

Yeah its been dropping a lot lately. I just checked newegg(usa) and it's at $135 after rebate for the 512!

I told myself I would wait for a DX11 card though. Tempting...

Why would you, though? especially if you need to upgrade now? After some time following the upgrade racket for PC gaming, the one thing that always seems to come to mind is... you don't buy the first generation GPU supporting a new API for performance in that new version API; you buy it because there's usually tons of improvements it has that will benefit all the games using the older version. And really, that has yet to fail. It usually takes at least a revision or two for when games that actually capitalize on the new software come out, and by then there are (usually) even stronger GPU's on the market that will make the first "compliant" stuff look weak by comparison. Is being the first really worth that much? Personally, I find that being able to just buy it for the better performance on the older stuff makes me a happier user than it does trying to make it use only the newest apps.

After exchange rate, tax, shipping and border fees that $135 is over $200. You can't expect merchandise pricing in Canada prices to ever drop to US levels. Good to hear the price has dropped though, I've been looking for something to replace my aging, under performing 8800's.

HD 4870's are DX11. I got my HD 4870 ASUS Dark Knight for 180$ shipped last month used and it's pretty bad ass. Maxes Crysis with 2x AA at 1920x1080 with 40+ FPS.

Yep, that XFX 4870 1GB is exactly the card I've been looking at for about a week. Gonna pick it up soon.

if you can swing it get the XFX 4890, it runs cooler and quieter and the performance increase is better than benchmarks are saying. I know I have both in crossfire. The XFX cards are nice. My 4890 goes over 900 core overclock.

I'm not waiting for DX11, I'm waiting for the cards. I'm hoping it will be similar to the release of DX10 cards. They had a huge performance increase compared to anything out at the time, and they were excellent for DX9 games too. I don't need a new card yet, my 8800 is still going strong. And anyone who bought a 8800GTX when it was released probably disagrees with you.

Obviously the 8800GTX is a notable exception for long-term performance. But even then, it finally has been eclipsed in performance at a much more attractive price point than it was at launch. And keep in mind that during the Vista Launch, you couldn't much use any nvidia card back then until Microsoft finally backed down and made vRAM virtualization optional.
