Probably OT but need advice on PS3 HDD replacement

I have a 60 gb ps3 and I belive my Hard drive failed so if I where to replace it would a 200gb 7200 16mb work? I know the oem is 60gb 5400 but i am not sure about the mb's. any advice will be helpful. Oh yeah if u guys know a good cheap place to puchase on please let me know

mb is just the cache size on the hard drive, which won't affect its compatibility, and as far as I know the PS3 doesn't really take full advantage of 7200rpm drives so you're just as well off with a 5400rpm one, which will be cheaper. 250GB or 320GB drives should be around $50 or a little more, these days. Check newegg.com or one of the other big US sites...not sure on them myself as I'm in Canada.

How does it not take advantage of 7200rpm hard drives? Loadings will be faster regardless.

No idea, thought I read it somewhere. A quick look just pegs the PS3's limitation at SATA 1.5, which shouldn't make a huge difference between drive types.

You need a sata 2.5 inch hdd.Go to newegg and you can get a 500 gig for 100$

It would be faster, even though according to DJ_Lae the interface is 1.5 gb/s, it will still be faster.
