Flooding in and around Thailand, which is where most HDDs come from.

Prices of HDDs have gone even higher within just the last few days. If you planned on buying a HDD, don't even bother.

Yeah it sucks. I should just RMA 15 hard drives for the lulz... but knowing WD they will just send me other people's bad units... which has happened to me A LOT.

60 percent of Western Digital's hard drives are manufactured in Thailand, the remaining 40 percent in Malaysia. And they ship hundreds of millions of hard drives in each quarter. 37,000 employees' homes were flooded.

yip in New Zealand the prices of HDD have gone up almost 150%. It's more fesible to buy a SSD instead. Thing is no one could be angry about it, since it is a natural disaster and peoples lives are ruined.

My laptop also using this brand. WD is a great brand, but because of the thailand flood that mentioned before, so the price of any HDD's would be getting expensive. If the thailand plant was broke down, then the factory plant in my country should give some more output to balance it. This is the law of the economics.

just buy all the toerh parts and wait for HDD (Hard Drives) to go down. no reason to skip out on the rest of the deal you can find right now. also if you want you can try and use the same hard drives you have right now and see if windows wont give you a hard time by providing a key or something.

I heard about this last week, so I got an external Seagate 2 tb drive. I got an external one because it was actually cheaper than getting the bare bones hdd. And to my surprise I opened up the case and inside was a Barracuda 2 tb 7200rpm drive. So I'm a happy camper.

thats why if your going to buy a build right now just buy it and wait till the price of the HDD goes down. black friday is not to far away and newegg has this black friday month. get everything else and buy it and wait for the HDD to go down in price
