I'm new toinstalling hardwareso i might have done something wrong. I did i little bit of research and followed instructions from multiple sites. First I uninstalled all my drivers and turned off the integrated graphic card through Computer Management. Then I turned off my computer and installed the graphic card (put the 6 pin connector in the back, etc) and then i closed my case. Then i connected my monitor to the card and turned the computer on. I only saw a black screen, so i switched back to my integrated card and tried to install the drivers for my 8800 but it wouldn't let me because my computer couldn't detect it. I tried the Install Hardware thing in Control Panel but it also couldn't detect the graphic card. I have no clue whats wrong.

Btw, i saw a similar post on another site and the only answers the guy got back was install new drivers or the power supply is too weak. I think my power supply is fine, it has 550W and 32A on the +12v and it's impossible to install new drivers. What do you guys think I should do?

I did install the hardware first. I turned on the computer and the graphic card's fan was spinning but the screen was all black. I switched back to the integrated graphic card so i could see what i'm doing. Then i tried installing the drivers but it didn't detect the 8800

First I would remove the 8800gt, then going into your BIOS and "disable" your on-board card. Then, repeat what you did before, double check that your card is completely seated.

What Anna said plus:

I see the 8800 gt has two DVI outs - I ran into an annoying problem with an older card where it wouldn't send video to the "second" dvi out unless there was already a monitor plugged into the "first" dvi out - even though, by rights, it should have worked just fine. Did you try both DVI out? Stranger things have happened.

Seating property is the big thing I'd look at, as Anna mentioned above, since if you are new to installing, sometimes you're afraid to put as much pressure on the card as you need to get it into place. Be gentle, but firm, and don't push on anything that's attached perpendicular to the board. Ideally if your mobo has a clip that holds the card in place, pushing it in and seating it completely should cause that clip to click into place. Best way to learn is to have an old & busted up computer that no one cares about, and fiddle with it and its video card until you figure out how much pressure the stuff can generally hold up to.

Also, breaking old computer guts is strangely satisfying. Breaking new 8800gt guts... not so much.

Good luck!
