So I just bought TF2 on the Halloween Sale that Steam has. I downloaded it and installed it just fine, but when I go to play it the game locks up everytime. I get the Valve company logo screen and then I get the "loading" screen which pictures usually either the Blue or the Red team, but then after that the screen goes black and the game freezes, can't even get to any kind of main menu.

I am running this on a pretty new laptop with no upgrades (Intel stock video card set) so I realize performance is an issue, but I tested my system on the "Can I run this" site and everything checked out.

I tried the following FAQ from Steam/Valve: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=6956-UGCB-7160

I followed the steps on there but to no avail. Does anyone have any ideas? Am I **** out of luck?

Thanks!

It should work. I was able to run it on my 4 year old Toshiba Tecra P.O.S. laptop on low. You might want to try these settings in your launch options: -novid -windowed

these launch settings worked, but the game comes up in a small window instead of full screen. But at least I can see the menu now!!

On your steam client, go to library, select tf2 right click and go to settings and under one of them you can verify game cache fils, which will make sure you have every file. It happened to me will S.T.A.L.K.E.R:SoC ( except the game wouldn't load at all) because it didn't download the exe and some data files.

Tried this as well, didn't make a difference for me. Anyways, I emailed Steam like someone mentioned so we'll see if they can help.

Just set it to the resolution you need in the options menu, then you should be set.
