Is it AGP or PCI-e?

If it requires extra power make sure that's plugged in.

Were you previously using onboard video?

In case you previously had an empty video bus slot, and were running just with the onboard chip, don't forget that the display cable has to be moved from the video port on the MB to the one on the card. Sorry if that's too simple, but a ton of folks have forgotten.

Also, you need to "remove" the IGP in the system's Device Manager (so the drivers don't conflict), as well as disable the IGP in the Setup (BIOS). The IGP should be on a page referring to builtin hardware. (The same procedures apply to both the AGP and the PCIe video cards, and even to plain PCI.) Retail versions of new cards come with complete instructions detailing all of this.

Every card I've seen so far with that power plug requirement has had some sort of error behavior to call attention to the need for added power connections. Mostly, they put a message on the screen (assuming the PC owner would read the instructions and plug the correct cable into it) and then they stop responding after that.

You should really try to state all your main devices. Name, model and drivers if you can with tech issues. Every set up can have it's own small faults with compatibility and conflict in the resources and IRQ's. This can tell people that have had the same probs how to help.

A little. you might need an adapter to convert D-Sub on the monitor cable to DVI on the card. My 7600GT gave me one in the pack.

Bent pins are easily straightened, or for only a small fee (much less than a new display's cost), let a technician handle the job.
