You probably have to set something up in your sound drivers for 5.1 surround. I know that I did with Realtek Onboard sound

You will not use all of the speakers unless the audio source requires it, so you need a 5.1 audio source to utilise all of the speakers. You may need a driver to do this. Also to get the full potential out of your sound you could invest in a sound card. If you do I recommend X-fi.

make sure your sound is set up for a 5.1 output, then play an actual surround sound file (either from a DVD or download some sort of surround sound clip online). Some sound cards (most these days) will allow you to test each channel/speaker individually so try and look in the sound card settings too.

i have plenty of 5.1 files myself but they are all very large files

if you have any games, try them out (make sure once again they are set to 5.1)

As far as I know when you play PC games you can set it 5.1 in game(if the game has it), but for me I have a sound card that I had to download a new update driver for it that has all kinds of sound settings from 2 to 2.1 to 4 and 5.1.....

if you have a matrix button on your speaker controller press that it makes 2 channel in to 5.1, i have the x-540s and thats how it is on them

only other thing i can suggest is upgrading to the x-540s which are an improved model of the x-530s and they have a matrix button that allows you to turn 2 channel audio into 5.1 with the press of a button

go into speaker settings set it to 5.1 then push the test and it will play a sound to let you know if they are working.
