Hey folks-

I wasn't sure if I should ask this here or if there was a different place I should ask.  I installed Silent Storm Gold on my laptop, which uses Windows Vista.  One of the requirements of a cheat code for that game has the user add the line "wirbelwind" to the end of the autoexec.cfg file (minus the quotes, of course).  I've edited the file using Notepad, but it will not allow me to save.  I don't know the error message specifically, but it says something to the effect that the file cannot be changed.  I've checked the user profile settings, and I'm set up as an administrator.  I'm not sure what else to check, so if you have any suggestions, please let me know.  Thanks!

Any ideas?  I thought maybe I would try turning off the option on Vista that protects you and the computer.  I'm not sure what this is called specifically, and if anyone else has any other ideas first, I'd like to hear them.

your not running the game at the time right?
right click it and see if its checked as read only. im not sure but i think that limits the ability to alter it.

I'm not running the game, but I have not checked the read-only.  That's a good idea.  Now I can't wait for work to get done so I can run home.  Heh.

Bingo!  I figured it out.  In Vista, if you have this problem, simply click on your user picture for your profile, and there should be some options that come up.  Click on the option to turn on or off the computer protection assistance.  Another menu will come up with the option to turn this feature off.  PLEASE NOTE - I do not know if this voids the warranty in any sort of way, so do this at your own risk.  Turn the feature off.  It will ask you to restart.  After that, Silent Storm's .cfg files were editable.  I do not know if this works with other games or not, but I imagine it will.
