Which is currently better for gaming? AMD Athlon or Intel?

if possible explain why, thank you very much. The reason I'm asking is because, I'm looking to buy a 1100-1500 dollar computer for gaming purposes.

I'd reccommend the Intel e8500, if you want great gaming performance.

Or you could buy a intel cheapo and OC is to better clocks and while being cheaper the intel is faster and draw less power.

So why is the X2 6000+ better?

I agree that it's a good CPU but not better than intels cheap C2D.

CPU isn't the major factor in gaming. The best choice, especially with your budget range only being $1500 would be to get a cheap Intel CPU. The E7200 is a good choice here, spend the money on a more powerful GPU instead.

With a $1500 budget, I'd say definitely go for an intel proc. If you had a smaller budget, it might be worth going for an AMD, since their lower end stuff seems to offer a little more bang for your buck if you watch for sales and rebates. But as it stands, $1500 as a budget lets you get the e8500, which is far superior to any dual core offerings from AMD.
