Alright guys, here's my idea.

Now we got games that are pure hardcore simulations, ie. Falcon 4, IL-2, GTR 2, etc. Then we got games that are like Ace Combat, Medal of Honor, Grand Theft Auto series.

My idea is probably geared towards a very small portion of the population who are familiar in dealing with pure simulations but need a little action in their games. Action/Simulation.

So image a game where it has a totally fictional sotry (i'm not talking about, "oh war in the Philippines in 2010 where you set up campaigns and such.") I'm talking about like... over the top storyline with key characters and such and an interesting storyline with twists and plots. Throw in the complexity of a flight simulation say... Falcon 4... and throw in some crazy enemy to fight against in crazy scenarios, like in canyons or tunnels... then you got an interesting and crazy simulation.

I mean we all can do car chases in Grand Theft Auto... but imagine trying to nagivate through the city running away from police when you got the complexity model of a pure racing simulation.

You see, the point of this new genre is to challenge the player in a non-realistic scenario handling a realistic vehicle.

Ok I know some people would say.

Simulator: "But that's ridiculous! How does that mimic real world.. there's a reason why it's called a SIMULATION, cuz the real world is boring"

Non-Simulator: "So you want me to pick up a flight manual of 500 pages before I can even get into the jet to fight off against the Aliens, Underground Virus, and/or the Chinese? (I'm chinese btw)"

Well my answer is this genre is for those who love simulation and love games like Wing Commander, and Ace Combat.... a blend of both. It probably won't work in a real gaming industry, but that was my idea.

Sometimes I sit in the cockpit of my WWII fighter in IL-2 waiting long time to my target wondering... "Oh man, what if my wife was cheating with my wingman and she told him to shoot me while on a mission." Or the enemy Ace I was fighting is really my brother... and then halfway through the mission we decided to join up to fight a greater evil... IN SIMULATION. Whatever.

so you are basically saying a realistic sci-fi game is your new genre?

Big producers don't like making games that realistic because it damages sales and they lose money. The majority of gamers just wanna jump straight into the experience without learning jack. Thats why you get ppl complaining in many games that it isn't realistic enough but when they get lumped with the instructions it puts them off playing.

I like your idea and if the game was good enough i'd be pleased to play it. But you have gotta convince multi million dollar corps that there are enough ppl like us to make a profit and that the n00bs won't start crying because the can't fly a jet.

Problem is people don't like over complicated and companies don't like making games that appeal to a small audience. Its all about the big sales.

What would sell to a massive population (MMO) are massive towns where every shop and home was actually owned by players and could attack neiboughboring towns or go off into the woods and other areas for quests and dungeons.

Well like i said...

Well that`s ur problem: if it doesn`t sell then it`s a bad idea... I guess many people have ideas on how to improve their gaming experience by adding personal customisation, blending genres to their own liking etc., but hey that`s what modding is for.

There arlready are action/simulation games. They don't have over the top stories, but they are completely fictional stories. Armed Assault and Operation Flashpoint fit perfectly into the action/simulation genre.

I'd be interested in a game the style of GTA, with online multiplayer from the get-go, but with the driving physics of, say, GTR2. That way, a player group would want a skilled getaway driver for, say, a bank heist. And I mean REALLY skilled, because if it's anything like GTR2, chances are that any high-speed turn is going to send you skidding into the nearest building if you don't handle the vehicle properly. Oh, and forget driving with a gamepad-you'll need a Logitech G25 to be able to handle it. (If only that wheel wasn't so expensive...maybe the Driving Force Pro would be a suitable alternative.) I can just imagine myself behind the wheel, slamming around the shift lever, pedal to the metal, trying to haul ass away from another car filled full of gunmen shooting at us...oh crap, my tire's been blown, gotta compensate for that now, as if dealing with REALISTIC driving physics and controls wasn't enough... However, I don't think that it would all work out for some reason...probably because most gamers, casual in nature, would be simply frustrated with dealing with a realistic driving model, unwilling to learn what it takes and step up to the challenge. That, and people won't want to buy expensive controllers to make the most of it. That's probably why you never see hardcore sims like GTR2 or Falcon 4.0 come even close to the best-seller lists. Nevertheless, I would definitely embrace more properly-simulated vehicles in common games.

sounds interesting, but in a world of casuals who only want to jump on Xbox Live for a short amount of time and get their Halo fix, idont see it happening.

You might want to look at Chromehounds (360) however. It seems pretty realistic, yet it is a sci-fi game. i think it fits what youre trying to describe.

Yes, and imagine the feeling of accomplishment when you escape or watching in the rear view mirror of others crashing into dumpsters
