Was thinking about getting another one of my old monitors out and dual screening it. is there any negatives to doing this (besides less space :P ) will my games take a FPS hit that is noticeable ? Can you keep web windows open on the other monitor while gaming ? any other notable pros or cons please let me know.

I can't say how it affects your gaming performance, but I have a dual-mon setup for work, and it's invaluable. I get so much more work done by expanding my field of view, and even for browsing the net, it makes all the difference in the world.

Pros:
- You can see more and do two things at once.

Cons:
- You look like a tool.

Yeah, unless the game is designed to use dual monitors. I like Sup Com and Flight Simulator X for that fact, they both support dual monitors.

During normal gaming your secondary monitor will keep the same stuff displayed as it did when you were at the desktop, at least mine did, I had it set up as vertical span and not clone. I used it to monitor temps and to let me know when someone was messaging me.

Its only really usefull for games that support dual monitors (SupCom). Also I have encountered a dual monitor problem with ET:QW, which causes extreme lag. That being said its hard to go back to one screen =)

Ever since my dad brought home an old dell monitor from work I've been using two monitors and it is completely invaluable, especially for programs which take up lots of screen space like FL Studio or the Gimp. Also, being able to play games and then see foobar, or xfire in the other monitor is damn handy ;)

I have a 24" and 20" LCD on my computer desk. I only game on the 24" LCD. I actually go into the video settings and turn off the 20" LCD when gaming. I'm not sure if having it on and displaying the desktop is bad for performance. I do it anyway.

I love having dual monitors. I put iTunes on one screen and a web browser on the other. It's just cool having all that space to put stuff.

About any new video card has two DVI connections on it. Just connect each monitor to one of the connectors on the card. Then go to display setting where you change the resolution and such in Windows. You should see a 1 & 2 relating to the two monitors. Select the second monitor and click the extending desktop to that monitor.

I have duals on my media PC which is nice because one is my TV. So I can maximize a video/DVD on the TV and use the desktop on the monitor. I just keep one LCD on my gamming PC. I think dualsare great for media and desktop apps, bad for games.

So if I have only one Dvi I must stick to one screen?

Does running dual monitors have any effect on performance?
