I just ordered a Sanyo PLV-Z2000 projector with a native resolution of 1080p. I also just got a Samsung home theater setup. In order to get sound I have to first run my PS3 through my home theater system via hdmi in and out to my projector. I haven't got the projector yet, but now i'm worried. My home theater system says it's maximum output signal is 720p/1080i. It upconverts dvd's to that but not very well. So my question is, if I have my PS3 set on 1080p say watching a Blu-ray disc ran through my home theater to my 1080p projector, will it actually display in 1080p or will the home theater knock down the resolution? I was under the impression that the home theater didn't actually process the video signal it just ran through it.

Hmm... I'm not sure if your system will alter the video signal. Guess you'll just have to see when you set it up. I have a question though. Does your monitor accept 1080p through component cables? If it does you can run audio to your speakers through HDMI and video to your projector through component cables since you can send video and audio signals through different outputs from your PS3.

No, your system is only as strong as its weakest component -- in this case your reciever. It's liking getting a Honda Civic to go as fast as a Ferrari because you put it top-of-the-line fuel. Sorry man, stick with 720p though. It's still great.

Yea it will only output 1080i as maximum. Crap the home theater system for one that does 1080p.

That really sucks. I just ordered the home theater system from refurbdepot, but if it will work to run the hdmi straight to the projector and an optical cable to my home theater then i'll have no problem doing that. I just didn't realize they would output simultaneously.

don't forget that some tv/projectors can upconvert pretty well. Also, I use hdmi for video/audio on my ps3 and my receiver only scales up to 480p but blu-rays and games look good regardless. Long as your content is in a high def format you shouldn't get a bad picture.

I would guess that the receiver is just doing pass-through. Most lower end receiver only do pass-through. I am not sure if that receiver is lower end or not. I would say if it is doing up-convert then it will only up-convert to the max of 1080i like you said but if it gets a signal of 1080p it will just do a pass-through. I have a Onkyo 605 and 705 and that is how they work. So I would say just give it a try.
