So I've been playing my PS3 upstairs on my 37" Vizio HD TV and its been great. But I want to move the PS3 downstairs to my game room where the rest of my consoles are. So I've been looking for an HDTV to put downstairs as well. I came across this 42" RCA 720p Plasma for $399. But for $298 I can get a 32" 720p Vizio. Which would be the superior gaming television out of the two? I love my LCD Tv upstairs but what are the cons of having a Plasma TV and how easy is it to get plasma Burn?

Thanks in Advance

Cheap plasmas may have ghosting... I'm not sure, but I'd read up about the RCA on forums and at review sites (cnet, etc.) and check it out. My guess is that cheap Plasmas are probably not going to be as good for gaming as cheap LCDs, but I guess it depends on the brands/model #s.

You usually get better value for your money with plasma. I'm guessing the LCD is 60hz so you will get some motion blur. The input lag will likely not be very good on either, but plasmas are usually known for having better input lag in general (LCDs seem to be catching up though). I'd keep looking for a cheap Panasonic plasma -- they are known for having very good input lag throughout their lineup.

Avoid the RCA plasma like the plague. As for burn-in.. some games can leave image retention for up to a few weeks (Demon Souls, for example). Uneven phosphor wearing (watching letterboxed content) will cause burn-in.

1080p or bust

Makes no sense for console games. 1080p will look worse or negligibly worse for 95+% of games

Resolution alone means nothing. Resolution needs to be spoken of with display size and distance from the display. Being as he is talking about a 32" set, if he sits further than 3.5 feet from the set, 720p will look just as good as 1080p. Also, most games are natively 720p and almost none are 1080p so 720p will probably look better with console games. In sum, your "1080p or nothing" remarks literally mean nothing.

Most 1080p LCD sets aren't even 1080p when the image is not static :P

got my 50 inch plasma for 1300 and I have been loving it. Panasonic is a great brand for plasma TV's.

I play games for hours and no burn in.

Burn in is pretty much a thing of the past with the new technology so no worries ;)

Why cheap out on your TV? You're better off spending $800 on a good TV keeping it for 4 years than a $400 trash TV which you'll want to bin after 2.

2-3 years is a long time to wait - some of the best selling titles for the PS3 and Xbox 360 aren't even HD.
