So I've got 500 bucks to spend on a display for my PS3 and I've been looking around and well.. frankly I could use a new monitor as well as something to play my PS3 on, so I'm curious about the whole playing the PS3 directly through your monitor.

The monitor I'm looking at is this

I think the quality is pretty good, granted its only 720p but most PS3 exclusivesonly render 720p anyway and since its a 22', I don't think it'll be a huge loss.

It has a DVI-D input and a D-sub input. What cables would I need to hook this up to my PS3?And would there be anything else I need?

the PS3 does not have DVI or D-sub(vga). The PS3 needs either HDMI, Component, Composite. Avoid composite, as it is not able to display 720p . The one you linked will NOT be able to hook up to the PS3. Try looking up the Dell 2407wfp monitor.

Entirely wrong. Ever heard of DVI-HDMI cables? The only difference is theres no sound and since the monitor doesn't have speakers to begin with, no problem.

That Samsung 226CW is a pretty good monitor and its native res is way higher than 1280x720(native 720p), so theres no need to worry.

^thanks for the correction. I actually just came across such a cable literally a few hours ago on another website. Right now I'm using my 24 inch Dell monitor for my PS3/PC. The screen size left a little something to be desired when using with my PS3(blu-ray+games). I think the 22 monitor is fine for PC, but you might want to look into getting something bigger if you can stretch your budget a little. Or you can just do both on the 22inch monitor and when you have enough, get a seperate HDTV. They should come down in price by then.

I don't know about you, but using my 24" at my desk, it looks equivalent to about a 60" HDTV in my field of vision.

I'm also at my desk w/ a 24". How close are you sitting to your monitor to get this massive 60" effect? My monitor is pushed up against the wall and I'm sitting back about 3 feet.

I measured about 20 inches from nose to screen.

I figured about 60" by taking my monitor to the couch where I'd watch a HDTV from if I had one, held the monitor out at arm's length (about my regular distance away from monitor), and looked at how big the monitor appears on the wall facing the couch.
