Ok, my TV supports all of the resolutions that the PS3 supports.

If I where to uncheck 720p would it still upscale the 720p to 1080p?
Or would it downscale the 720p to 480p?

It will upscale it to 1080p.

I personally feel that the native resolution is the best way to view games on my PS3, but the previous poster is 100 percent correct, unchecking 720p will upscale to 1080p.

Just be aware that the PS3 doesn't actually scale the games naturally and when you cheat it into outputting at 1080p it may cause graphical oddities. I tried it with Uncharted and it looked much worse than when I had my PS3 set to 720p. So I just leave 720p/1080i/1080p checked and let the system output what the game was designed for, if the game is 720p then my 1080p has no choice but to display it at 1080p.

Well most of the time, your tv will upscale as well, or better than the PS3, so it does no good to uncheck the 720p

The ps3 doesn't upscale like the 360 does. Its possible to "force" 1080p with some games by unchecking 720P, but most will just downgrade to SD. no matter what the box says, all current gen console games (ps3 and 360) are made for 720P, so your better of just using it if it needs it. The diff is the 360 upscales everything,a nd the ps3 just does what the developers wanted.

It depends on the game really, like Burnout Paradise and Ratchet & Clank FToD both upscale (i still play them in 720p) but Battlefield:BC downscales to 480p for me. I would much rather play at the native resolution then force my tv to upscale.
