my rig is

MB ASUS M4A88T-M AM3

VGA SAPPHIRE|100315L HD6850

PSU COOLMASTER|RS-460 (output capacity is at max 420 so running the GPU on medium settings will upgrade the PSU in about a month )

MEM 2Gx2|PNY MD4096KD3-1333

HD 320G|WD 32M SATAIII WD3200A

CASE ANTEC 200

so i noticed that my rig makes a slight scraping sound , i invstigated and found out its coming from the PSU . the sound is really noticable when im playing games on it .

any idea what it is guys ??!!! im really worried !!!! my first build so ....................:?

- Is it the fan from the Power Supply? U can test this by putting a cable tie and stopping the fan from spinning (and seeing if the noise stops). - If so, if the PSU is under warranty, get it replaced.

It stands to reason that a noise is from a fan, but there are other things that can make noises, like loose transformer laminations or corona discharges or non-fan motors. You can use a two-dollar stethescope the way car mechanics do to try to pinpoint the source if stopping the fan doesn't work. If something is hitting the fan, move it. If it's anything else, I would try to live with it until May---I can't think of anything that poses any sort of danger. Is it really loud?

not that loud , and to me it seems to be the fan to cause as soon as i start a game it there !! and about the recemondation i got about putting a zip tie in the fan to check should i do it before i start the computer or after the PSU is running ? yeah and it wouldn't mess anything up permanently ? i willl be running the PSU without the fan for like for 5 mins or so ? catch fire or anything or produce some power surges and mess up my other components !!!?

It might be due to CPU Fans or power supply. If its due these fans then you will have to change fans and power supply to get rid of scrapping noise.

He meant to take a thin piece of plastic, like a new zip-tie, and stick it in the fan while it's running to stop the blades for a second. Gently. You could use a sliver of wood or a straw or anything non-conductive, even your finger if it fits. If that stops the noise, the noise was coming from the fan. Stopping a muffin fan for a moment doesn't hurt it or anything else.

Correct. If it is the fan, see if it's spinning probably. Last thing you want is for the fan to stop spinning and the PSU to heat up, which could result in ur motherboard getting damaged. Best bet: get a new PSU.

First tip. Don't use CAPS, cause it means screaming and people will help you less. Ok. Now are you SURE that's it's coming from the PSU? and not the video card? I ask this cause my video card makes a slight noise when playing games. If you want to be absolutely safe, get a new PSU now instead of April. Better safe than sorry.
