I had a 7970 which I just sold to my brother to put into his bulldozer 8150 build and now I obtained the 680. My system is in my sig so what should I be expecting.

I had the 7970 running BF3 constant 60fps+ with dips into low mid 50's with a 1190/6825/1380 v core with temps mid 70's no sweat.

Crysis 2 HDDX11 pushes around 58 frames but can dip to mid 40s in rare scenarios.

Witcher 2 Maxed with ubersampling is all over the place from mid 40's to low 60's but mostly mid 50's fps.

All these game will go up to 70 fps+ in some instances as well but rarely and not worth noting.

My Phenom 2 940 is clocked at 3.7 with a 1.475 v core temps sit high 20s idle with low to mid 40s under load. I know a lot people are rolling intels now but I was curious if anyone had a similar build as to me with performance postings.

If I were you, I would either ask the question before making the purchase, or after the item has been delivered and so I can teast it myself. But I am guessing you are excited.

Not sure why you sold your 7970 for a 680, especially when your CPU is the thing that needs to be upgraded the most. You'll max everything with a 7970, not sure why your priority was to get a 680 over a better CPU.

My brother bought my 7970 for 450 and I saw a 680 in stock so I said, meh why not?

What kind of cooler do you have on your Phenom? I have a 965BE (stock clocks )with an Antec Kuhler 620. Idle is 31 and 51 with prime on. :S

Hyper 212+ with Artic silver 5 2 fans with push pull and 1 for exhaust. All are on a controller, I have a 2800 RPM rear exhaust fan which help the temps easy while maintaining quiet under idle, sorta loud under load but I game with a headset anyways. With prime it can get up to about 48-50c. I was able to get a safe clock up to 3.9 but would sit around 55c under prime, 4.0 bsod but if I bump voltage to 1.5 I'm sure its achievable but not really worth it in my case. Since you have the rev 3 (I think) I've read you could take 965 up to 4.0 while keeping it within 50c if you have really good airflow. I dunno much about your cooler but your temps seem rather hot for stock clocks. Artic silver 5 should drop temps anywhere between 3-7c (even more depending on cpu,32nm) if you apply just the right amount, Since it's thick I suggest spreading it very very thin across the cpu but make sure it covers it on. I used a piece of small paper to do mine. But airflow is the absolute key and go fully modular on a power supply and go behind your motherboard, these are probably some of the most underated performance tips. I just gained all my knowledge reading tons of reviews and looking at what other people have done with similar builds.

2 gentle typhoons with push/pull. Arctic MX-4 paste. Ive had my 965BE at 4.0ghz (only a few degrees above normal) but have some slight stability at stock volts. So for now im keeping it safe at 3.4 which is enough right now. Ive never had as low temps as you, maybe the kuhler just sucks.

Yeah ive had it at 4.0 under stock volts, but under heavy load i can get errors, not bsods or nothing, just unstability. Only a few degrees higher than stock. But i dont want to mess with the voltage so im keeping it at stock and thats enough for me, for now anyway. Arctic MX-4 push pull with gentle typhoons. Never have i reached as good temps as you. Im not sure if its the typhoons that are the "problem".

I'm sure stronger fans would help but I would maybe suggest re-seating the heat sink maybe. I know for a fact I have to clean my PC/Cooler with canned air every 2-3 months because the dust build up raises my temps dramatically by 4-6c

You made a bad choice. Your CPU works better with an AMD card.

You will be losing performance with that Nvidia card because it is the wrong color. Bad Bad ;)
