I originally only had the original GW, but I decided to buy the triliogy on steam. But when I downloaded it and was creating a character it would only allow me to choose to play in the original GW game, and not factions or nightfal. I even unistalled my first GW in case that was messing it up. Anybody know what I should do?

I'm not sure how Steam handles your Guild Wars account, but if you right click on it in your My Games menu, they probably have given you an access key for the trilogy.
If it's there, add it to your old account on the Guild Wars login screen (where it says 'Create Account or Add Access Key').

Did you install and actually run all of them? I know for Dawn of War, I had to run each of the expansions once before it would let me pick all of the races in multiplayer. Maybe something similar is going on.

Go to NC Soft's website, and create an account there. It should prompt you for the key when making an account.

If he has already played the original Guild Wars, then he has an account.
All three games use the same .exe file, so he just needs to open any of them and add the key in the login screen...unless Steam has its own activation thingy.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that you won't need to make a new account^^.

If you already have a GW account, use the CD key to 'upgrade' your account to open up access for the extra content. Like normal MMO's, the client files have nothing to do with what you can access (as GW streams 'on demand') - it is what is attached to your PlayNC account that matters.

Ah, I just found this on the Steam support site:

Guild Wars requires a separate account from your Steam account

If you have skipped the account creation process during installation, please complete this process:

  • Right click this game from the "My Games" tab in Steam
  • Select"Managegame account..." to be taken to the NCSoft website
  • Complete the stepson this sitetocreatea newNCSoft accountor login to an existing account

So yeah, if you login to your old account through the Manage game account button, I guess it should be activated...and then you can add your cd key to your account when you open the game?

https://secure.ncsoft.com/cgi-bin/accountManagement.pl Click on your GW account Click on the Upgrade Link Enter your serial and submit Boom - you are upgraded. It is actually quicker to upgrade to new packs via the game client itself, as it will apply any serials directly to your account. Of course, you have to pay full price @ the NCSoft GW store to do this.
