purchasing a new PC....need advice badly

Looking to make a purchase for a new PC but have NO idea what to look for...not spending alot (600-800 canadian $) but sooo many processor types....AMD or Intell, triple core or quad core.....what would be a good onboard vid card ( I have a PS3 so most gaming will be on that), anything to watch out for...things NOT to buy......help !

3Ghz per Core.I would go with Intel.

forgive my ignorance on the topic =P, all I meant is my PC now is a single core 2.2 running at 3ghz, a few years old....seems like the technology should be faster than it was a few years ago. I'm assuming with triple or quad cores its triple or so the actual processing speed.lenwood24

quad core intel q6600 really fast and really overclockable, £160

mobo asus pq5 pro,£100

gfx card, Powercolour gxt 260 216 or nvidia 4870 1024 mb both about £200

Memory, Corsair 4GB DDR2 XMS2 PC2-6400C5 TwinX (2x2GB about £40

Antec 300 case, $40

Psu Coolermaster Real Power 520w Modular Power Supply £60

Cooler, Arctic Cooling Freezer Xtreme CPU Cooler $30

hard drive Seagate baracuda or samsung sdpinpoint 500gb, both £46

dvd _RW - lg, asus, sony any good make will be great £20

I would spend more and get this,

Shop around, you will be supprised at how little you could spend on something like this, especially in canada,

With the asus pro you can overclock the 6600 like madalso the q9550

lots of "old" intels will clock to 3gb with practice and good cooling

Some ppl banging on about i7 but any other descent intel chip will keep up for a year at half the price for a kick ass overclocked rig.

Even on stock speeds it will easily let the 260 kick ass in games
