Actually, it should be Q6600 if you OC and Q6600 even if you don't OC.

You need to clock the Q6600 if u want it to perform better than E6850 in games, buying Q6600 is just stupid if you only play games.. Games wont be able to use the quad with full effect for perhaps up to as much as 2 years... Buy a E6850 and change into a Quad in some years, thats my advice, and my plan....

EVeryone telling u something else is either aquad fan boy, or just want to have quad, because it sounds cool

"However, you can make Lost Planet: Extreme Condition game work on quad-core processors, too, where there are four threads created. There is an option called "Concurrent Operations" in the Options menu. By changing it from 2 to 4 you can obtain even more impressive results on Core 2 Quad Q6600."

I have the same question!

I'm wondering which is better...

Pros for 6850: higher clock+ FSB, Forget games optimised for quads for another year [they wont want to loose their 2 core customers soon!]

Pros for 6600: More cores, Higher OC than 6850, Somewhat future proof [Considering that intel introduces new chipsets once in a couple of years, upgrade is a no go option! Getting a new PC is better!]

Toms harware seems to justify the 6600 option in a recent review. I have faith in them so might get a quad... But what else do you have to say???

I am looking into these two processors as well and, as someone who has no experience with overclocking, which would be the better option? I've seen that the E6850 runs better in most games without OC but this is something I would not rather deal with a year from now. How long is an E6850 expected to last and still maintain high-end gaming?

^you could hit 3.8-4.0GHZ with a E6850. anyways I think a E6850 and a Q6600 will last quite a while and serve admirably.
