With a CNPS-9700, those temps are to high. I say try reseating the cooler and make sure it is making full contact with the CPU. Also, AS5 takes roughly about 200 hours to "burn-in" before achieving optimal results.

Possibly too much arctic silver maybe?

Did you apply a thin line across the heat spreader and then apply the heatsink or did you put a gob on the heat spreader and try to smooth i out over the entire surface before installing the heatsink?

The application should look like the line in the photo. You only need to apply a small ammount as wide and as thick as that line and don't spread it out. the heatsink does all the spreading work for you.

Oh yeah that could be another reason. So you need to re-apply the paste and resit your heatsink and hopefully you will have everything normally

I reapplied as5, and the cooler multiple times. I have even tried using Zalamn stg1 thermal paste. The temps are still high ranging from 40sc-50s Celsius

I just re-applied the cooler for a fifth time... using a small thin line of as5.

Temps actually have gotten worse.

Never heard of using a line... The most common way is to dab the middle of the CPU (about the size of a bb) and then press the HSF onto it.

I am getting very depressed here. All the cores are above 60c now.... my computer has also gotten slower. I don't know what to do. Maybe i should get a new cooler? Whats the max temp the cpu can handle? Are these temps dangerous or harmful.

How long have you had it. You may have gotten a bad chip that you might need to RMA or get it replaced via warranty. My q6600 was running hot idling at like 55-60C with no OCing. Now I think my censor is broken because it under load its saying like 90C.

I just hope intel gives me a new chip. I've only had the thing about 4 months and its been acting up for the last week or so. I haven't OC'ed it or anything its actually toned itself down to 2.13ghz because it thinks its too hot..

If nothing seems to be working and you're sure you're doing everything right I would look into an RMA..

It would probably take a good amount of time since those chips are out of stock everywhere. Hopefully someone can help you alleviate the problem so you don't have to RMA it. Where did you buy it from?

My temps on the Q6600 with a stock cooler, is 45-50 (idle) - 55-60 (underload - all 4 cores working @ 100% prime95). I really suggest you check out either how much thermal paste you put, your zalman, or your q9450.

Out of curiosity, how much thermal paste did you put?

Hopefully it's just his CPU then. I didn't plan on applying my paste that way, but now I'm having second thoughts.

the best way i found was to apply the paste to the heatsink first and spread it on the heat-sink my temps are 27c idle and 39c max on load @ 3.2ghz prime 95 also check your vcore if it's too high

I've tried different ways of applyinng the paste, small thin line, blob in the middle, used Zalman stg1 paste with brush application. ... still the same problem.

I brought the processor from tankguys.com

It could be an incorrect temperature reading.

Did you try it with the stock cooler? Or did it come without it.
