Whats a better deal for today's gaming? Is Q6600 still good? I know the Q9450 is more expensive.

Share you thoughts please.

Thanks ;)

Q6600 is still a good deal, it's easily overclockable into the upper 3GHz range and cheap. The Q9xxx series is faster than the old Q6xxx series clock for clock, and they overclock even higher, upper 3GHz range to 4GHz. They are 45nm, have new instruction set capabilities, and run cooler.

Either will do you good, I think it's more a matter of price.

With the Q9450 so voltage hungry and having only an 8x multiplier, you'd be lucky to overclock it past 3.5Ghz. The Q6600 on the other hand, can do 3.6Ghz+ on a good board, for a lower price too.

Get a Q9550, the price has already dropped! Hurry. Newegg.com. There's no question which one is better. Q9550>Q9450 or Q6600.

LOL. I waited forever for that price drop that I couldnt wait any more. I almost purchased the Q9450/9550 before the price drop but then I settled for the E8500 instead. Although, I wish I hadn't. The Q9550 is a beast Quad-Core at stock and it's one hell of an overclocker. Man, you're going to love it. Enjoy. :)

as im a kind of pc enthousiast im trying to see other Benchmark for. Q9300 & Q9450 & q9550 OC OR not. and vs OC E8400-E8500 on higher resoltutuioen 1024x700 is old. the most current resolution we want top lay ias 1280x1024+
like 1680x1050 / 1600x1200 and if we people would have a chance.! 1920x1200 ;)

Depends how much you have to spend. I went with the Q9450, cause I wanted the newer toy and the 12 mb cache. Granted, I only pushed it to 3.2, but it runs like a dream.

Hehe, 2560 x 1600 is my native. And by dream, I mean the rig POST'd on its first try, and installed Vista in about 7 minutes. Odd thing... it's getting faster. I swear, it's booting faster than when I first booted. And everything but Crysis is max'd, with my two 8800 512s. Granted, I've only tried Crysis and COD4, but I expect this winter to be a good time.

Q9450 is more expensive but worth it. 45nm cpuz has less overheating issues wich is better when you OC.
