i heard from someone that told me there is no reason to overclock a qx6700 cpu.  i guess hes right becuase it kills your warranty.  and if i am going to spend 970 bucks on that is it really worth trying?

If you know what you are doing, there is almost no risk in doing so...
I plan to OC my future quadcore, whenever I decide to buy one. Though I am one of those people that OC's all my components.

If its anything like the core 2 and you can get a 100% overclock out of it then it's well worth it,

some new games only run at 15-20 fps on even the fastest computers,so overclocking is worth it.

Currently, yes, because games are still only running on one thread, meaning that it isn't using all those extra cores, so you want the highest clock speed possible.

Now when games become multithreaded, the overclocking may not be necessary but would have quite an impact on FPS.

If I were lucky enough to own a quadcore, I would overclock the hell out of it. I'd feel as though something were missing, running a quad core beauty at stock speed. There'd be a hole in my heart, ya know what I'm saying? :)

What games are take that much? I was thinking an 8800GTX, QX6700 and 2 - 4GB or RAM would make anything on the market play with a high FPS. Ahh, do I have to wait longer now to build my computer? I wanted the best quality. :(

It's a media/print/firewall server. I don't host any games on it.
