Hey all, was just wondering if anyone knows if Quake 4 is incompatible with Win7 cause it worked fine on my old system with XP but when I tried to install and play on my new system which has win7 64 bit I cannot get it to work no matter what I do. Is there a fix for this? I know the multiplayer wasnt very good on this, I just want to be able to play the single player campaign again. Thanks for any help:D

I hate to suggest the obvious, but first things first... have you updated the game to the latest version?

I'm getting a similar problem as well. After seeing this message I just decided to try to put in the cd disc 1 and see if it would run it. A message came up saying that this program has known compatibility issues. Use the windows solution to see if the problems have been solved. of course they haven't been, and when I try to run the cd it says library not registered. Because the program is not installed I can't make it compatible to windows xp...funny doom 3 can run perfectly on windows 7, but not Quake 4?

Nm, I figured out how to install it, but now I need to find my instruction manual because the cd key is on it and not inside the jewel case....

It's probably a good thing that it doesn't work. Quack 4 is nasty. It's a SP game first, not MP.

actually I didnt even buy it for multiplayer, I was interested in the single player because I like the story. I enjoyed the single player somewhat and completed it on my old computer with winxp. I just was hoping to be able to play it again, I have plenty of other great multiplayer games.

To me it was way more fun than Doom 3's SP. Quake 4 is not at all the same as the earlier games in the series which were multiplayer based and arena shooters.

Both Quake II and Quake IV had great SP campaigns. What's so funny about that? When I play one of those I also play SP, because MP is so hardcore it's downright humiliating to jump into a match.

Then try playing the game on 32 bit, it that doesn't work then try 64 bit again. If it still doesn't work, play it on the Windows XP.

The thing I don't like about Steam is that they do not force the producers to patch the games at all to run on new systems. Another example is Deus Ex, which can have speed problems on anything other than a singlecore, because of the way it was developed. I bet for Quake 4, if you used a proper illegitimate executable it would start ok. Which kind of defeats the purpose of having it on steam to begin with...
