Quake 4 or Doom 3?

I'm looking for good singleplayer, and hopefully active multiplayer, co-op or competitive. Which should I get, and why?

If your comparing the two for good single-player, I'd say both games equally match themselves but in Doom 3, you are more or less alone throughout the whole game.

In Quake 4, however, you'll be fighting alongside some AI friendlies and also you'd be able to use a tank in one of the missions.

Multi-player wise, I enjoyed Quake 4's a lot more than Doom 3's multi-player.

If you want an all alone shooter in dark corridors with cheap scare tactics that'll make you jump every now and again get Doom 3.

If you want a game with good action that makes you feel like you're part of a planetary invasion get Quake 4.

Quake 4 is much better IMO. I completed it last month still a great game. Doom3 is boring to me.

I preferred Quake 4. Fast-paced, a bit more variation, more impressive battle segments, and much better level design.

Tough to say. Quake 4 had a great campaign, Doom 3's was scary as hell, I had to push myself to play through it but I never finished it. I think there's a co-op mod for Doom 3 available as well..

I doubt there's an active multiplayer community for either. Q4 is pretty much dead and Doom 3 being a single player game, didnt have a community to begin with.

I thought Quake IV was a lot better than Doom 3, but both had good campaigns.

I would have voted yes had it been available. Why not get both? They can't be that expensive now can they?

Good single player? Those games don't fit the bill... Multi-player Quake-4 should still be quite active, doom's is probably dead and isn't any good compared to q4 anyway.Inconsistancy

Quake 4 is challenging and action orintated. Doom 3 is full of interesting creatures,and has an amazing atmosphere. Both are great and have cool boss fights, so take your pick.

Multiplayer; Quake 4 is better.

I like both but Q4 is closer to my heart, just so many good moments in that game. Raven knows how to make great single player games.

Oh, and MP is better and Q4 as well.

Weird, I've never seen Quake 4 talked about on Gamespot before, I thought it was purely multiplayer too.

Get Quake 4 if you want some fun single-player gameplay (don't expect too much, though) and a solid multi-player (worse than the free Quake Live, though) and get Doom 3 if you want scary atmosphere.
