Quake. Faster and more competitive.kdawg88Yeah, this is my take on it, however I enjoy rampaging around huge environments in vehicles in UT2K4.
That actually makes it worse, because Live brings shame put face to face with Quake 3.Here's why Quake is better.

And here's an UT 2k4 one which looks a lot better compared to Live but just as good as you can find Q3 ones.
a bit offtopic, but do people still play ut2004? i'll get my hands on it if they do.groowagonYes, there are always a good number of servers online with a good number of people playing. I would say go for it.

How the heck is Live not as good as Quake 3? I find it just as enjoyable, if not more so, because I've gotten all my friends into it, considering they can play 80% of it for nothing. I mean, I'm a Premium member, but still.[QUOTE="groowagon"]a bit offtopic, but do people still play ut2004? i'll get my hands on it if they do.CaptainAhab13Yes, there are always a good number of servers online with a good number of people playing. Well, I mean -- UT2K4 doesn't have a bursting population, but there are definitely enough people online to get some awesome matches going (which is fine imho). I only have UT3 for the PS3, and there are only a handful of people online on the PS3 at what I consider peak hours (evenings, weekend afternoons). I've heard there are many more people online in UT2K4. However, another thing to consider before taking my opinion as golden -- I have a TON of fun with the bots on high levels. I mean they're better than lots of human players. So if you enjoy bots, you can pick up UT 3 dirt cheap and have a blast. If you're craving online play and, imho, a slightly better game, go for UT2K4. Just my two cents.

Play Q3 and tell me Live is half as exciting and hectic.Overall, I guess UT. The only Quake I ever liked was the original. UT has always been somewhat enjoyable to me.

I haven't played it in almost 5 months but apparently it has a lot more players than what I saw at that time, right now there are over 4.8K players.[QUOTE="DanielDust"][QUOTE="CaptainAhab13"] Quake 3 is a lot better in any way, except the number of active players, and it's like that for a single reason, Live is free. As for the game itself, they don't make Q3 anymore, the only way you can get it retail is to buy Quake Ultimate which contains all the Quake games, but it's a little pricy if you'd want to get such an old game at a low price, not sure if it also supports Macs, from what I know id games should support it but no idea if they have separate versions.
Yep, for mods, I also like 2K4 only for the mods, loved UT99 tho.Question: Does anyone here prefer UT3 over UT2K4 for one reason or another?
CaptainAhab13
Quake I guess, overall I have liked more UT titles then Quake titles, but Quake 2 is pretty much the best I ever playied.

Of course Quake 3 is better - for obvious reasons, but it no longer has the community or the support since the upgrade to Live.
Unreal Tournament is a masterpiece. It sill blows my mind to this day how that game was made in 1999. Sooooooooo much fun.
I will say UT2004 is freakin great. Deathmatch was good but the Onslaught mode with vehicles was a real standout.
But I prefer quake over any of the othergames from the UT series. Seems like quakes weapons are better balanced. Out of all the quakes, quake 2 was my favorite. in quake 3 they even have made a new sport called defrag which is about just making crazy jumps on custom maps. Some of the jumps require great skill, timing and co ordination.
As a pure shooter I would pick Quake by a longshot.
