The idea of the game is excellent. A few different classes to choose from, different objectives, but I will not buy this game because of the following reasons:

1. You do not run in that game. You and the enemy zic zac around the map

2. You and your enemies Zic Zac around way too fast

3. Sniper Commando is useless since enemy see the triangle above your character so forget tactical sniping ops because the next noob comes flying around throwing nades at you.

4. Useless air units. You basically explode within 3 seconds if you use it offensively, give it 8 if you know what you are doing.

5. Too many people that don't only know how to play, that also give the minimum effort of wanting to know how to play the game right. That means, no matter how good you are, you alone can't repair a bridge since the enemy always knows where you are, vice versa

6. Maps are too small

7. You hear what the enemy speaks. Yeah it's funny the hissing and yes-no-yes-no once every map but it gets to a point where I hear it 100x in 5 minutes and that gets boring.

8. Weapons all sound the same

The only good this game has to offer are the cool classes, nice ground vehicles and the small maps are nice in scenery, the weapons too. The graphics are good but this game needs a lot of improvement, but then again, I see people that play Quake4 online like it is the best MP game ever so I am not surprised getting some hate mail here in a sec.

I agree with ever point. Played the demo last night, it was average. I could see it was a quality-made game, but it just wasn't very good.

You seem to like slow paced games with Sniper or Air dominance. Stick with BF2. This game is not for you.

1. I zig zag in every game I play...is this new to you?

2. That's the sprint feature, many games have it.

3. Snipers that move stay alive...snipers that are stagnant don't...you can apply that to any game.

4. Thank god...I HATE BF2 because of the air units. They completely ruined that game.

5. It's not even out yet...do you know how to play Crysis MP?

6. You've only played one map...how do you know what the others are like?

7. There is probably an option to turn off voice commands...if not...oh well.

8. No...each TEAMS' weapons sound alike but that's extremely helpful. It's a lot easier to tell the difference between a laser being fired and a shell...consequently one team uses lasers and one team uses shells. If you are on the laser team and you hear a gun shell being fired then you know an enemy is near by. How is that bad?

gpvalkyrie

That's because it is called cover-ops and not sniper commando. The whole point is that you come down from your mountain and help your team by giving them covering fire. Just camping around will not help your team very much.

I myself have had my ups and downs with this game. When everyone knows what they are doing it's very fun, but the current newbie crowd is very iritating. Still I'm getting this game for Competitive play just like everyone else,

Yeah. I canceled my pre-order. I enjoyed the demo but I don't really see this game lasting long. I could be wrong but with UT3 and TF2 on the horizon I can pass without regret.

The maps seem to be the right size to me. I do agree with your complaints about the weapons. They just didn't feel "right" to me as much as I expected. The vehicles however, do have a good feel to them, and the handling on the ground vehicles is especially impressive. The sound in general seems lackluster as well (as in every game with the name Quake in it). I personally found the Icarus laughably fun to use. The whole design was impractical as any I've ever seen, yet using one was challenging and just plain funny. My biggest complaint has to be the learning curve. Often times, I was confused with the abundant minor details and how to work everything. It is frustrating that only specific classes can complete certain objectives too. Another misconception is that this game is a cross between BF2, 2142, and Quake 4. I doesn't play like any of these games. It does, however, feel similiar to ET:RTCW in a quake setting. Another thing that annoyed me was the fps cap is at 30, which seems way too low for an fps. I would prefer it be at 60+. The:

"unlock_fps 1" command makes my experience feel a bit less jerky.

The ground textures also glaringly stick out as unfinished, but they should be with the retail product. The explosions also look remarkably fake. However, the game is pretty good fun. It may not make as big of a splash as BF2 did in '05, but It'll appease fans looking for a more "involved" experience. I prefer it to 2142, but certainly not to BF2. Regardless, I'll have plenty of fun with TF2 and UT3 for my multiplayer fps needs.

Ok people.

The Zic Zac is a fact, also, the shooting reminds me of the C&C Renegade version, you just fire and fire kind of where the enemy zic zacs around in, because he turns 180 C in 0.00001 seconds and then turns 90 C in 0.0001 second, then jumps and after he lands turns again 90C in 0.0000001 second but that's ok ebcause you do too and sooner or later a few lucky shots kill him because in long distance fights in that game, it is about lucky shots my friend.

As for the Covert Ops (Sorry that i used the word sniper commando, so we have to use the exact words these days), as for comign down from the hills to help your team with a sniper rifle is ridiculous, please, just stop making such points. A sniper rifle has a LOOOOONG barrel and a Scope attached to it for a reason. That's enough said.

Once again, the game is good but it could be AMAZING if the points I stated above would be resolved.

This game cannot be compared to BF2, not that I call BF2 better but everyone would love to see a BF2 Special Forces soldier in Quake Wars in terms of movement etc...

For heck's sake, hopefully they get rid of this C&C Renegade type aiming and shooting style...

For me this game is a 7/10, it could easily be a 10/10.

I don't know about the demo, but I did play the Beta and I had a ton of fun with it. I actually think that most of the OP's list are incorrect.

1. Zig Zag running is found in every MP FPS game. It is even found some in real battlefield situations (people zig zag from cover to cover if needed). BF2 was a bad example of this, and of bunny hopping.

2. Why would you want to run SLOWER? Because death comes quick and unexpectedly, you could spend 60% of your time spawning in and running to the front. Why would you want that to be 80%?

3. The "sniper" class was my favorite class. Not many people know that you can go up to a dead enemy, use the hack tool, and put on an enemy "disguise." I was never a sniper, I ran up to people in disguise and ganked them unexpectedly. So much fun! They you hack their base and save the day. The hacker class is one of the best, and very devious.

4. The air units in the Yosemite beta level were brutal (although there was only 1 there for the Strogg). It killed tons of people and took several hits from high powered weapons to kill. You can't say that ALL air units are represented in the demo map. There are these little air-bike things, but they die very fast (and they don't fly, they jump around).

5. Welcome to MP FPS gaming...

6. The beta Yosemite map was huge, had multi-tiered goals, and took easily 30-40 minutes of play with a decent team. It was an Assault map with the humans attacking a Strogg compound. Tons of fun, the battle changed constantly depending on what goals the humans had succeeded in getting, and there were 3-4 different "fronts." The demo map may be smaller, I don't know.

7. Well... not much I can say about this. You can hear the enemy in BF2 as well.

8. Meh... can't even tell you I head the weapons over my squeals of glee and cursing.

Now, I am no fan boy of the game. In fact, I won't even be buying it. I think it is a good game, very fun, but there is a lot coming out in October and MP FPS is not my favorite genre. If I had extra $$ and time I would get it, but those things are just not present.

Maybe they just used a really crappy demo map. That would be stupid of them, but I have seen it happen.

Thing is with your "sniper", in Quake Warsits job is to infiltrate, that is the reason the class not only has the ability to carry a scoped rifle, but a machine pistol, on top of that the hacking ability is pretty much the icing on the cake. This class I have been using pretty much the majority of the time I have played thus far, I am suriving just fine in combat.

One thing you got to realize you are on a team accept it, or don't play. I can do well firing from a distance, but my team benefits more when I work with them. This demo especially points that out with the missions that has been set aside for each of the classes.

I have to agree with Pedro on the standards of sniping. Any sniper worth a squat knows after a couple of shots you move. In BF2, I cannot tell you how easily my score was padded due to "nobbish" snipers.

I think the maps sizes are alright, what I have played thus far offers decent choke points and overall a good mapsize when put in comparision to some of the urban maps that I have played in BF2.

The air vehicles I really like, I have no issues using them, and you can survive more than 8 seconds in combat if you use them smartly, and ask a covert ops guy todisable a anti-air turret. That is of course the covert-ops thinks he's a sniper and not a team player who just so happens to think is ridiculous to get his feet wet along with his or her teammates.

The thing is most of your complaints aren't the games flaws, they are either from your inability to adapt, or the "flaws"are from features that donot meet to your personal preferences.

I will accept there are a few issues like the FPS cap.Otherwise this seems to be a pretty good demo.

I sure hope he means turns 180 degrees as an angle and not a temperature.

That 180 C kind of threw me off

Quake wars is fun, but pretty flawed.

One of the biggest issues i have with it is that map is very unbalanced, in favour of the strogg. Its just far too easy to keep the mcp disabled, it takes a considerably better gdf team (than the strogg) to get it all the way. If theyre not better enough, its very easy indeed to keep them away from it entirely, once its out of the tunnel. Some better teams eventually get that objective finished, but then they often dont have enough time to complete the mission. Ive played a few games, mostly on the gdf side, a couple on the strogg. The gdf won once. The teams were not organized at all, as far as i can tell. Essentially, it takes a very good, and/or well organized gdf side to beat a fairly average random strogg team.

Im not sure what this guys issue with the sniper class is. The fact is, sniping in the game is so easy and effective (and fun :P) that its probably a good thing the enemies can see you (if they look at you, anyway, ive camped in a few places and had a bit of a spree). Also, if you destroy their radar, they dont get the triangle - something to prioritise, perhaps?

I dont like how easy it is to die, particularly at close quarters. It can get frustrating constantly dying just to throw yourself back in and die again, repeated over and over...

Spawn camping is really quite annoying. Theres been a couple of games where someone just drives a vehicle through our landing zone constantly, theres been others where theyve do normal camping.

Overall, this game has some serious balance issues, mostly team and objective based, but also some vehicle and weapon ones. Its a pity, because the core gameplay is pretty fun, and its a very well designed map (other than the whole unbalanced thing) and the game looks very nice.

yes, because the sniper rifle is your only weapon  (sarcasm)

the sniper rifle is primarily for suppressing fire and in public games is very unnecessary (unless you're hallway shooting). Using the Sniper Rifle won't let you use the other(much more important) capabilities of the Covert Ops efficiently. Sitting on the same spot for a large portion of the game without deploying radar and without destroying deployables isn't doing your team much good.

Also about air units. Just wait in a couple of weeks you'll see how dangerous they can become. My friends gets 600xp every round with the tormentor.

I agree with pretty much everything, except it looking nice, I think it looks pretty bad even maxed out. It's just not my type of game, I had some fun moments tho so maybe it just takes some getting used to, more than for e.g. BF definately.
