Hey guys, I'm having some performance problems in a game (Frontlines: Fuels of War). If I have shadows turned on in that game, my computer crashes (after 20-30 minutes, monitor stops receiving signal from computer, and computer freezes a few seconds later). I was asking for help on their forums, and one member said he has an almost identical specs, except that his processor isn't overclocked.

So my question is, if I return my processor to its original 2.4GHz clock speed to test if that's the problem, (its now at 3.4) if that doesn't solve anything, can I just bump it right back up to 3.4GHz with no problems?

Well if its crashing and locks up it could the overclock from ethier the Graphics card, memory,or CPU. So games can be very picky about overclocking, also does it lock up any other high end games?

Do one thing at a time seeing what the overclocked part is causing the issue, first try CPU,then memory and then Graphics card.

What's wrong with OC'ing it so high? It's stable in anything else that I do. Load temp is around 59 C if I remember correctly (I'm using a Ultra-120 Extreme to cool it).

No. I have no problems like this in any other high-end game. In response to your second post, should I lower the CPU speed down in increments? or just drop all the way down to 2.4GHz?

Your joking right ? Most people have them running at over 3.6.

I'd try it back at stock speeds to see if it is the CPU, if it doesn't crash you know it's not the CPU. It could also be a Driver problem, are you using latest drivers ?

For my GPU I'm using 175.16, according to Rivatuner. I don't think that is the problem, because I was having this crash back when the game released also, and I've updated my drivers a couple of times since then.

I guess I'll reset my clock speeds to normal and see what happens.

Alright I reset my clock speeds and played a few times today. At first it seemed like it fixed it, but after a while (longer than how long it usually takes) it did the same thing.

So does that mean I can rule out my CPU's overclock as the problem?

thats a joke, the avg OC is 3.0 ghz, but theres a guy here on gamespot with 4 gbs of 1300 mhz ddr2 (insane OC), SLI 8800 GT's at over 750 each, and a Q6600 at 4 GHz with water cooling, but on air, its easy to get at least to 3.4

Vcore is your voltage of the core(cpu, gpu) in this case cpu voltage.

You can check your Vcore using CPU-Z and check your temps using HWMonitor ( Gives more details about temps then core temp)

Oh voltage. Well I reset my processor's clock speed, so it went back down to the default, 1.344v (according to CPU-Z). With the overclock to 3.4GHz, It's set to 1.4v

As for that HWMonitor, when I run it, it only shows me the temperatures of my 3 HDDs, nothing about GPUs or CPUs.

In core temp up top where you see select cpu, #1 should be the north bridge, if it won't let you and your MB didn't come with software you might need a thermal-probe. What is your MB?

Yeah, it wont let me select CPU #1. My motherboard is the Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L.

Hey guys. I know I'm kind of bringing this thread back from the dead, but on some other forums I think I determined the problem of my crash. (the GPU temperature problem is still up in the air)

Could my problem be that I'm underpowering my system? I've got a Q6600 OC'd to 3.4GHz, 2GB DDR2 Ram, Factory-OC'd 8800GT, 3xSATA HDDs (55GB, 180GB, 250GB), and one DVD Burner. I'm not completely sure, but isn't 450w of power just seem a little low for this system?
