question about downloading/bandwidth usage

I have 8mb broadband. If I dl something directly I can have high transfer rates of say 350kb/sec and I can still browse, stream videos, etc with no interuptions or loss of speed. However if I dl something by torrent, and say its only getting a transfer rate of 25kb/sec it really affects my browsing, causing websites to load very slowly, streams to buffer/freeze all the time.

Why does downloading by torrent slow up my browsing even when its at low transfer rates, yet direct downloads can be using 10 times the bandwidth and dont affect my browsing at all?

No, the upload speed should be in proportion to your bandwidth up.

(if you have 100kb up you only set torrent's to upload in 70kb when you surf on internet, your web-browser ned some headroom for get and send stuff when browsing.)

it's uploads that are slowing you down. Can either put them down to practically nothing or just download when your not surfing.Demo24

Ive really lowered the uploads and ive noticed a big change in the download speed, itsmuch faster, thanks guys

i think i was imagining that the download and upload were seperate, not realising that the uploads is taking bandwidth from the downloads, dont know why i never realised before!
