Hey all,

Ok I have just got Dragon Age and really like it so far. I have been playing on easy setting as I remember the original PC Gamer review suggested doing that as combat is too hard on higher levels. Also a mate who has had the game for a while said he found the combat too hard, and he has been gaming for far longer than me.

The thing is I am finding the combat pretty easy so far. I am at the part where I have just arrived at Lothering with Morrigan. Will it get much harder? without giving too much of the plot away please...

Just play on medium if you find it too easy. Switch back to easy if you find it too hard. Couldn't you have figured that out by yourself?

Sure, I was planning on trying that but just wanted to get a sense of whether what I have heard about the settings is accurate or an exaggeration.

When the game came out Normal was actually quite hard and challenging and Easy was basically what Normal is now. But they fixed that in the first patch so now Easy is really Easy and Normal is slightly Easy. I'd recommend playing the rest of the game on Normal ;)

If you're looking for a bit a of challenge then switch to normal mode, other wise stay with easy. I personally started out on normal mode and there are some really tough battles in the game. Took me a few tries but completing them was really satisfying. Also you would get the hang of it as you progress later on in the game sense you would get better spells etc.

The beggining is harder than the rest of the game, as you acquire more habilities it will get mucheasier. Just keep in mind to get healing potions and give everyone in the party some sort of ranged weapon, as soon as you get some crowd control spell you can beat it in any difficulty (i like sleep and cone of cold).

I switched to easy when I got to insanely hard boss fights. Everywhere else was played on normel.

the difference between easy and medium is quite significant imo, especially early on. Once you get a character high enough (level 15+ or so) the game becomes significantly easier, especially as a mage with your 4th tier spells.

In the beginning, I found medium way too hard (that damn Ogre in the first part was impossible lol) so I scaled it down to easy, but then after a few hours easy was too easy so it was back to medium.

I felt medium was, overall, a proper difficulty. Hard is just insanity...rewarding, but in a tear-my-hair-out kind of way.

I never stooped down to easy, because I'm not a n00b at these kinds of games. I think it's exxagerated about the difficulty, but then again I stared as a mage, which probably made life a little easier. I would recommend everyone play 'normal' after the patches, unless this is your first bioware rpg game, or you are a very casual 'The Sims' type of gamer.

Medium is fine I think. I had to scale down to easy on one fight (against some random woman commander when rescuing a certain someone closer to the end) and a few revenants but that aside medium held up a great and fun challenge...

Seriously, all these people saying the game is too hard, it just blows my mind. Really the only way to make it hard is to not run with any Mages since their AoE CC is insanely overpowered, among other things. Even then though, most of the pulls you can easily grab a single enemy at a time, unless they finally patched it. Plus I'm not counting the use of things like herbalism and traps since I never used them. Running with one Mage, not using any traps or potions/balms, the only thing I found difficult were Revenants because they hit like trucks, but going into the Hexes just destroys them. I will admit I found it fairly hard my first run, so it could be a bit more about the learning curve, or I got the wrong spells on my Mages.

Some useful replies, thanks. Ok, I've patched the game and will switch to normal settings.

There are certain parts in the game even on easy that the game can get tough, I would up the difficulty if you want every battle to be tough.

I played it in Medium, and it was relatively easy, I regret not playing at a harder difficulty. But I'm coming back for Awakening though, on a harder difficulty.

the game is actually very easy once you get the right set-ups. I found the beginning to be more challenging than most of the rest of the game simply because at that stage (unless your playing mage, which made it extremely easy), you'll only have warriors and its a bit more tough
