So me and my family are planning to buy the new Mac Pro for my brother who works with 3D Studio Max and other really demanding programs. The Mac Pro comes with the choice of having either 1, 2, 3 or 4 ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT 256 MB cards or one NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT 512 MB card. I was wondering what the difference is between all those possible combinations of cards. For instance, which is better, 2 ATIs, or one NVIDIA? Is the difference between 2, 3 and 4 ATI cards very big and noticeable? I only know something about gaming, so how good would all these different combinations of cards be able to run Crysis for example in a stable framerate? Anyone who takes the time to answer, i thank him in advance.
the ati card is a little on the old side the 8800 gt has only just been released and is a good high end card, i believe even dual (or crossfire as its called) 2600 xt's still wouldent match its performance and i never heard of quad crossfire with 4 ati cards being available,
still i think you would be best off with the 8800gt because one 2600 xt wouldent match its performance and having 2 3 or 4 2600xt's dosent mean you will have 2, 3 or 4x the performance, the performance gain drops with each new card that is added because games simply arent written to take advantage of 4 video cards.
the 8800 gt will run crysis on high settings at moderate rwesolutions 1024 768 or 1400 900, but i dont think crysis has been released for the mac, just pc.
