Hey guys, I recently bought a asus xonar dg soundcard and a shure srh750dj pair of headband headphones. When i use the headphones to listen to on my ipod the sound is much louder but plugging the headphones into my front audio jack of my soundcard the sound is much quieter. Also plugging in my corsair hs1 USB gaming headset also gives a much larger volume. Why is this the case?? I put my volume on max for everything. Is this normal or am I doing something wrong? Thnx for the help.

Try the back plug. Make sure analog out is: Headphone/FP Headphone, just incase and not speakers out. Also go to tabs: Mixer>adjust left & right to max or desired volume on top of windows volume + player volume. Check this icon that looks like a hammer (!?) or w.e it is right of Analog out and set it to >64 ohms excite mode or the max choice.

Set eq to S-Rock, unless anything else sounds better. Ignore 2 channels and switch to 4ch or more, it sounds broken to me so.

Have you isolated the issue, meaning tried a different set of headphones using the same front jack? Have you switched between the front and rear jacks? Are you using updated drivers for the sound card? Have you gone into the software for the Asus card to adjust the volume as well as the Windows Volume software?

It would be very unusual for the card to be significantly quieter than your iPod. I'd keep tooling around to isolate the problem.

Good luck!

Maybe the ASUS software isn't linked to Windows's sound panel. Windows's sound could be set very low, while your ASUS's card is set high. Check the volume setting for the Windows sound panel, not ASUS.

Dont increase the mixer volume from the default, it's set to highest from the default, above 74 you will get worse sound quality.

You should only need to set the amp at exciter mode to make it really really loud, no need to adjust the EQ either.

And btw the exciter mode of the amp doesnt work well with the front panel not for me atleast. Not sure if it's the sound card or my casing's wiring which is the bottleneck.

That is true, I notice the sq sounded much better if I increase the mixer L-R (if thats what you meant, gamber) last, but hey the tc wanted it to be louder. I say increase the ohm anyway, since the bass and texture improved with it and the lowest ohm sounded faint but if I increase the volume I still feel like something is missing. Flat EQ sounds like crap too along with all eq except for s-rock, though I leave my player eq on flat so it doesnt become all distorted or off.

Nah increasing the mixer sounds worse to me, it brings clipping.

Ya s-rock is the most popular setting for this card but it all depends on your hardware. I keep a flat EQ for my bose headphones and s-rock for my logitech speakers.

And yes even if not utilizing full volume, the amp should be set at exciter at all times.
