I plan on getting some new speakers for use with my PC, 360, and PS3... My questions are about whether or not certain cables will work together and then after that, will they support 5.1 surround sound...?

Logitech X-540 Speakers

Startech Stereo Male to RCA Female

Rosewill Stereo Splitter

---

---

---

Ok here is my plan...

I will plug 1 splitter into the other splitter... this will give me 3 stereo ports converged into 1 stereo plug... I will then plug the 360 and the PS3 into the 2 RCA to Stereo cables... and then those 2 cables into the second splitter... this will leave one stereo port left which I will plug my PC audio into... then I will take all of this which is converged onto the first splitter and plug it into my Logitech X-540 Speakers...

So here it is... WILL THIS WORK?

And here this is... IF IT DOES WORK (WHICH I DOUBT) WILL IT STILL SUPPORT 5.1 SURROUND SOUND ON ALL OF THESE THINGS?

THANKS!

Well it will work. Kind of. Every time you split it the quality will go down and become more staticy. No it will not be true surround sound.

Do you know of anything I can do to get surround sound, good quality, and not be forced to unplug and plug in cables whenever I want to switch to a different system...?

Also can you explain to me what the ports on the speaker mean...? I have never used speakers, just the built-in's on my monitor... but I am gettin a new monitor with no built-in's and I need these...

In this pic, I am guessing that the bottom 5 are for the 5 speakers, but what are the top 3 for? Are those simply stereo ports and can I plug my 3 systems into them?

And if none of this will give me surround sound... can you tell me what I will need to get it?

THANKS!

Unfortunately, there only appears to be one input source for those speakers. The center/front/back combine to give you 5.1 sound and this type of input will not work with consoles. Consoles require digital (looks like rca) or optical cables for 5.1 sound. The rca outputs (stereo) from your console would only plug into the 'front' input on your speakers (using the 'Y' connector you've shown above). Splitting it multiple times will probably degrade the sound quality.

So the only way I am getting surround sound is if I buy some $1000 home theater speakers?

Also do you guys know of a switch or something instead of those splitters... I need something to have all of the cables attached at once... my new monitor doesn't have speakers, and I have three things that need sound and I want, if not good quality, at least decent quality...

And are you guys saying I need a different type of cable all together for surround sound...? Digital audio?

This?

And then after that I need a surround sound system that accepts that type of cable?
