I am not much of a PC gamer, so I'm not too sure how good or bad my specs.

I have a new MacBook 2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 2 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 memory. Is there any chance this will run Portal on my MacBook? Thanks!

I mean this in the least rude way possible, but, Portal is free until the 24th! Download it and see for yourself! www.steampowered.com. Scroll down a little to download the steam client.

Whats your GPU? Portal will run on low settings. BTW: Laptops aren't really meant for gaming, and I don't really know much about Macs aside from the fact that they are extremely overpriced.

You should tell that to to all the companies who design notebooks specifically for gaming.

Portal runs fine on my unibody MacBook. You'll have to turn the settings to low and disable motion blur.

Apparently there is something to fall for, or we would not have countless game A runs like crap on my "gamin" laptop.

You can't blame peoples ignorance of what people think they have on the company who sells it to them.

I never said blame it on anyone. I simply stated that while companies say that their product is a gaming laptop does not mean that it is a good choice for gaming.

They're just trying to sell you their product. Sony had those best buy commercials trying to advertising their Vaios as gamine notebooks, it's up to you as a consumer to know what is and isn't a gaming notebook. This same exact argument you're trying to make isn't any different than desktops. There are gaming desktops like there are gaming notebooks, neither made any less for gaming than the other.

Yes it will run portal. Make sure to turn off AntiAliasing as its running in OpenGL and OGL doesnt do AA very well. People also suggest turning off motion blur.

ASUS laptops are great. :) To the OP, since Portal is free until May 24th, do the smart thing and try it out. ;) There should be an entry somewhere in System Profiler that will tell you what your graphics adapter is, and that will be helpful for you to know if you want to try out other games in the future.

Mine has an i7 and an HD5730. (I have the N61Jq model) It runs my games well enough that I love it. I'm currently playing Dragon Age on my laptop. Pretty laptop... *does Gollum impersonation, while mumbling 'preciousss'* I don't know the price tag for mine though, since it was a birthday gift.. :)

Very nice. I told my husband birthday gifts like that is why I married him ;) (And then I cooked his favorite dinner, just to prove my point.) I have 4GB RAM already... I will take it up to 8GB when the price drops though, and probably upgrade the CPU as well. It's a 720 i7, so it could be better. At the same time, as long as it runs games okay I am happy with it... though I'm really, REALLY tempted to throw an SSD in there...

So worst case scenario, you still got a good deal. ;) And yes, GTA4 is. Upgrade your RAM , right now. Preferably through my employer. :P

8GB and a duo core is going to keep you gaming for some time though... 3DMark is great, but it does not a good gaming system make... :)
