Can I play the same game on multiple computers through my account? For instance, can I play L4D2 on one computer while my girlfriend plays it on a different computer on my account?

Yes, but you need to do it in a special way. You need to log onto one computer then go into offline mode, then do the same with the other. Then (Just for L4D2) open the console and type "map c1m1" and go to the first option. This will start a campaign on the first map, you can change it later through voting. Your server will show up on the other computer under "Steam group servers" or the like on the bottom of the page, so just join there.

Offline mode also works for CSS (besides the map thing, as Iantheone mentioned. I'm not sure how many other games can do LAN play the same way, though.

The official answer, legally, is no. You're technically not allowed to share accounts.

TC, not to hijack the thread, but I'm curious if the "new desktop for Christmas" is the one in the sig, or are you getting an even more powerful system. I'm curious to know if that's the new one as that's actually somewhat similar to what I'm currently running, and it's doing a great job with everything I've installed..

In this particular case, the program is getting put into "OFFLINE" mode, hence shouldn't be able to see online servers and/or join any online games as the account would be seen as 'in-use' by the 2nd machine.

that doesn't change the fact that you're not supposed to share accounts.

He's sharing the account with himself. As far as I understand he has two computers at his house.
