RV770 is going to be a late May/June launch.
Current rumored specs for the HD4870 are-
55m
96 shaders (480SPs)
900-1050mhz core
16 ROPs
32 TMUs
256bit interface
1GB of GDDR5 @ 4400mhz (effective)
~140Gbps of bandwidth
~830m trannies
~250mm2 die size
Rumored MSRP is under $300
Supposedly compatiable with the HD3870 PCB but they are upgrading certain components, meaning that AMD/ATi really only has to work on making sure the yields from TSMC are good, since the PCBs are components will be plentiful.
The interesting thing about the speculation right now, is that sources in the West are talking about a SP upgrade TO 480SPs while sources in the East, Middle East/Asia, are hinting at a 480SP INCREASE meaning 800SPs. The former is more realistic, especially when noting the transistor budget they are working with, but it isn't necessarily impossible or out of the question.
Also other rumors state a GDDR3/4 launch in May, not going to happen IMO.
The more tasty rumors are that R700 is a MCM approach that can share the frame buffer, i.e. the memory. This means that they don't have to double the frame buffer, 512mb x2 will equal 1gb of memory or 1gb x2 will equal 2gb of memory. R700 is looking like a late June or early Q3 launch and it is something a lot of us are waiting for.
The other really tasty rumor is the power consumption, load power consumption is going to be hitting roughly the same TDPs that AMD cards are hitting now but the idle is going to be ridiculously low. Such as ~10w for HD4870 and ~25w for HD4870x2.
