Question regarding internet and routeurs

What's up all ?

I'm right now in university appartments, with 3 roommates...We gotta share an old modem with only 3 ports. Plus it is very slow...it's kinda irritating cause I'm used to high speed internet ya know ? :D

So one of my friends talked about routeurs, in particular Linksys routeurs...He said that it guarantees high speed highspeed internet...

Is it true ?

my linksys router works fine with highspeed internet, gives the speed i should be getting. Getting a new router wouldnt really help if your modem is bottlenecking everything, unless u meant to say router cuz i believe the router has to be connected to a modem or ethernet wire.
