Long story short, getting a PS3 in a bundle with a new tv. Have not owned a console since N64. I have a 58" 1080p plasma hooked up to my pc, and a 2560x1600 monitor. I am a PC gamer, I like my high res and 60+ fps if possible.

Are there many good games that play 1080p + 60fps on ps3? Anyone with a large screen think 720p games look bad from ~ 10ft, do they at least get decent frames?

Don't have a care about FPS games, not buying any for ps3. Interested in racing games as I do have a G27 though. And some ps3 exclusives, though haven't looked into it at all, only found out today I could get the ps3 for $50 more than I was paying for a blu-ray player with the bundle.

So PC gamers with PS3's, what do you think? Keep the ps3, or sell it?

I'm also PC gamer and I love my Ps3 and so will you! Interested in racing, want an exclusive and a 1080p resolution game on the Ps3? Grand-Turismo 5 fit's perfectly in the category. The console also supports the G27 so you will have a blast. You also get a blu ray player which is also a plus for us! So yeah, get the console, you will not regret it!

The only reason I own a console (PS3) is for sports/racing games (shooter + controller = anathema). Keep it.

edit: +1 for GT5 - perhaps my most anticipated console game this decade.

Keep it. I'm a PC Gamer but I also own a PS3. Had a 360 for a few months and got bored with it. But I keep the PS3 around for sports games, racing games, and exclusives. Plus the PS3's interface with Netflix and Hulu is more streamlined then running through our HTPC. Not to mention Blu-Ray if you rent movies.

Also some really good action/adventure games get really bad ports from console to the PC so if that happens to a game you want you'll be able to play a decent version of the game. Also if you are by chance like me and older with a wife and kids who game, having the PS3 around is great for party games, family games, and stuff like the Lego games that have really fun co-op. Also if your a football fan and are younger, having friends over you probably don't them to pile up mountain dew or beer around your PC.

There are some exclusives like Uncharted, Little Big Planet, and God of War which won't be seen on PC ever, that really should at least be tried out by anyone who enjoys games and isn't in the "I only play FPS games cause their cool" crowd.

Gah. My brothers keep resisting my efforts to sell my PS3. I want to get rid of that crap and get another gaming PC. They play on my rig WAY freakin more than they play on the PS3 but they still refuse. One day...one freakin day.

Keep it for a bit, try a few games and then decide if its worth keeping :) I do have a PS 3 at home and its alright. Problem is if you are too used to superior PC graphics, the stuff that you see on the PS 3 can sometimes be quite a culture shock. Actually prefer playing on the Wii :D

But there are exclusive games on the PS 3 that look decent so you might want to keep it handy in case one or several catches your eye.

Anyways, I do spend a lot MORE time on the PC coz Steam is trying to drive me nuts with endless deals.

Not sure what your brothers disabilities to build their own PC's has to do with the topic, but delete their save games, password your PC and tell them to get a job and build their own.

I would keep it. Sports games always better on consoles. They are great for social gaming too, i love having a mini league with friends on FiFA for example.

If however yo uare expecting a graphical experiencs anywhere near PC forget it. I hate going from P{C to console games, PS3 games look truly awful in comparison (except a select few).

I own Borderlands on PS3 but never played it, (my son does) as i hate controller for FPS games. Bought the GOTY edition recently on Steam and compared it to the PS3 version i already own, the difference was insane, the PS3 version looked laughable. That was on the same TV.

You will find most games on the PS3 look blurry, muddy and really colourless vs PC games, the bigger the TV the worse they look too. Also forget 60 fps, only a handfull of games get this on PS3. GT5 is one game, if like me you hate racing games though, pointless lol.

Guess I'm unclear if you mean you'd still pick up a stand-alone blu-ray player for your new TV if you don't keep the PS3 or not, because if not I'd certainly keep the PS3 around as a blu-ray and Netflix player at minimum :) Personally, mine gets gets significantly more use for movies rather than gaming.

I'd keep and give it a try, see if you like gaming occasionally on the machine for the exclusives.

The games certainly don't look bad, however, as primarily a PC gamer you'll be able to notice PC games do look superior with resolution for example being a very easy difference to spot -- in particular on a TV as large as a 58" -- be sure to sit a distance back, but then you lose that ability of immersion to really pay attention and notice finer graphical details that are enjoyed playing on a PC at a closer distance and higher resolution imo.

There are almost no games that play at 1080p and 60fps on PS3. And the few that do are usually little known games with no or little lasting appeal. They barely can do 720p and 30fps in modern shooters so if you're looking for graphics then stay away. However if you like the concept of exclusives and great sport games with a great bluray player then go for it.

Wel, not really playing 1080p with 60 fp is impossible. It has an average of 720p at 40fps. I like ps3 for exclusives like uncharted, by the way, yay a new one comes out along with resistance 3...killzone 3? Meh not that interested. Sadly i dont play racing games much.

Well the PS3 is my only console. I kind of bought it unnecessarily and I will admit to not getting its $300 worth (it's a slim), but I have used it alot lately, and of course it's a blu-ray player too which is a plus. There are very few 1080p games on the PS3, outside of GT5 and many of the PSN titles. I'd certainly recommend that you get multiplatform titles on the PC, and there are quite a few games still to get on the PS3 be them exclusives or console only.

Earlier this year I was primarily a PS3 guy till I saw the light and went back to the PC. For 95% of the games, the PC kills any console for graphical potential. Also, if you got a good controller, there is no difference in controller options (well, PC has more options of course). However, on the console 1080p is rare and 60 fps is also uncommon based on my experiences.

What the PS3 DOES have going for it though and the reason I kept my console is some amazingly good exclusive games and the blu-ray player. I cant even watch DVDs anymore, they look like low-res garbage. So, I'd say, keep the console but if you got a good PC, try to do most of your gaming on that.

I've been in basically the same situation as the OP. I was interested in a console to sit back and relax on the couch, but only if I could fully utilize my TV. It doesn't really appear to be possible at the moment.

Hmm pretty mixed opinions, appreciate them though. Basically PS3 would only be used for games and exclusive ones at that. I have blu-ray drives in both my pc's, and two standalone blu-ray players, one with 3d, and both do netflix etc.

Not really concerned with graphics quality, just poor frame rates and non-native resolution. 30fps would be unplayable in a racing game to me on pc, looks like a slideshow and makes your control input inaccurate, on pc anyway.

I think I may have to just keep it in the box so it can be sold as new if I choose, and go to a best buy and try gaming on it to see if it's worth keeping.

If you're looking for 60fps on consoles, you're in the wrong market. And no game on consoles run at true 1080p to my knowledge. And the ones that claim they do, are bad looking games like Lair. I game on a PS3, 360, but mainly on the PC. And to me, games still look excellent on consoles. I sit about 9 feet away from my HDTV, maybe a little less. Looks perfect. I would keep it. At least it will make a great Blu-ray player, but if you ask me the PS3 has some of the best exclusives out on the market. Uncharted series, God of War 3, Killzone 2, Heavy Rain, Heavenly Sword, MGS4, inFamous, Resistance 2, just to name the main ones. It's totally worth every penny.

I only have a 40" 1080p telly but the games look good on it even if they're only 720p, they're not as sharp as on PC, but you get used to it pretty quick. For 50 bucks I'd say it's worth it especially with GT5 on the way, should be 60fps too (and some pseudo-1080p res). I don't play mine much though, it was kinda of an impulse buy, but I'm glad I have it for games not on PC (if I ever find time to play them).

PS3 is definitely worth keeping. There's all sorts of great games like Red Dead Redemption, Metal Gear Solid 4, Uncharted 1 & 2, God of War, etc. But I'm gonna be honest with you, graphically it's pretty poor compared to PC gaming. Some of the games do look magnificent like Uncharted, but they are considerable held back by a low internal resolution and 30fps. But it's a console, so whatever.

I'd say keep it though, you would get to play a lot of exclusives that are great games.

The only reason i keep my ps3 is for demons souls, otherwise none of the games break the mold. Hopefully the sequel will come soon.

I use my PS3 for social games (as in same room) rockband, street fighter 4, and such, altho I do not play any serious, or storydriven games on it, since the PS3 games (with a story) tends to be very short and very2 dimentional.

It is all a matter of taste, I DO have a place for my PS3, but everything "heavy" in gaming is done on my pc.

Keep the PS3. It's a superb console with some great games. With your 58", it will also make a rather good Blu-Ray player.

I have a PS3 and I use it for its exclusives and fighting games. Demon's Souls was amazing, UC2, KZ2, R2 were pretty good as well. I can't wait for MVC3 and the new Mortal Kombat. GT5 is also going to be great.

I have both a PC and a PS3...they complement each other quite well. PS3 tends to get third person shooters [Uncharted, Assassin's Creed etc], sports games, social games [Guitar Hero/ PS Move ftw ;P] on PC I stick to mostly strategy with the odd FPS. The only complaint I have with the PS3 is the price of the games in comparison to PC really, no technical problems at all. Virtually all the games play smoothly, with no noticeable lag or anything [graphics wise] because, well, there is only one machine to code for so testing is miles easier. Don't expect a level of detail anywhere close to the PC, and with some blurriness, but they're not ugly by any stretch of the imagination.

The only game I've seen at 1080p and at 60 fps is Wipeout HD + Fury. That's the only game that had managed to do that. The second game I've played at 1080p is Assasin's Creed 2, but that sometimes went as low as 50-40.
As of now, I'm not playing it that much. I'm waiting for Gran Turismo 5, and probably will play it again.

Everytime I think about buying a console, I end up upgrading my PC. Sell it !

I agree with this guy, sell it for upgrades. I ended up giving both my 360 and ps3 to my nephew because all they were doing was gathering dust. The only console i own now is the Wii (apart from my retro consoles) and thats only because my girlfriend likes it a lot otherwise id probably sell that or give it away too.

I have a PS3 and PC, as well. Aside from Killzone 3, I'm not looking forward to anything on the PS3. Ever since I got my PC, my preference toward it compared to my PS3 has grown exponentially. Now, every time I play a game on my PS3, all I can notice is how bad the games look compared to PC. Lower resolution textures and extremely low or non-existent levels of anti-aliasing stick out like a sore thumb, especially to a PC gamer. Now, considering that you've never had a PS3 before, its novelty will outweigh its shortcomings. Having said this, it's a good idea to own one due to all of the exclusives it has. I've had so much fun playing games such as Uncharted 2, Killzone 2, and Metal Gear Solid 4. All great games. Basically, if you can look past its poor technical prowess in comparison to PC, you can enjoy quite a few exclusive games which can't be found on any other platform. Also, as someone else pointed out, you also get the benefit of its BD drive, which should be pretty exciting if you don't already have a BluRay Disc drive in your PC.

I have a PS3 and I use it for its exclusives and fighting games. Demon's Souls was amazing, UC2, KZ2, R2 were pretty good as well. I can't wait for MVC3 and the new Mortal Kombat. GT5 is also going to be great. bobaban
I like the PS3 for fighting games as well, particularly because of the PS3 controller.
