I currently use the Steelseries Qck Mini for my mousepad; its durable, smooth, and the perfect size. With the holiday's coming up, I was considering trying out a new pad, maybe the Razer Sphex (since I'm cheap and it has good reviews). However, they are really in two different categories; hard and soft. Do you guys have a preference to which would be more suitable? (I mostly play FPSes: Quake Live, TF2)

I just use my (handmade) wooden desk haha. It works like a charm with my (Battlefield 2142 branded 8)) Logitech G5 mouse. But my buddy has a hard mousepad that says Func Industries and 1030 Surface on it (not sure what its called) that works really well. I actually prefer my desk, but thats because it is sanded and smoother as hell (not staind or anything).

Same here, it works very well. Man, before that wrist rest I thought I was getting carpel tunnel syndrome. Yowza.

The edges of your mousepad sure do... before I scotch taped the edge of my mousepad, I could get cut :)

steelseries i2 is the best one i've ever used. it's a glass mouse surface.. used to be called icemat. super smooth and has not worn down in places like previous plastic ones i've used. this + teftlon feet mouse is perfect combo.

Well, my desk is made of glass. Mice don't work on a clear surface. Otherwise I'd go without.

Generally hard are better for laser mice as the surface dosn't deform due to the weight of the mouse. For the most part though it's down to personal preference.

You need a pad if you want better glide also not all descks provide good tracking (tracking issues become more common as you increase the DPI).

I think some of you guys underestimate the power of a good pad... A smooth and consistent surface made a bigger difference for than switching from my mighty mouse to a Razer mouse.

I am sure any true warrior would want their desk being wasted on Quake 3. i know I would.

I use the hard Alienware branded mousepad that came for free with my M17x. It gets the job done.

I just use my desk, but I've been looking for a decent hard mousepad to use instead.
