I want to be able to run crysis decently well. At medium, medium high setting at 1280 by 800 at 30fps. Is the 8600 GT good enough? If not, is there a GPU that's not much more expensive that is good enough?

itll run on med, not sure if itll run very well or not though, but the HD3850 will run it at med-high at that res and its only about 40-50 bucks more.

the 8600 is not going to run crysis at that res at all, it will run it at 1024x768 at medium with 2-4XAA for good performance. at that price range you should be looking at the HD3850.

You DON'T want to get the 8600GT. The 3850 is a MUST. You'll run medium + shaders @ high very nicely at that resolution. With shaders @ high, Crysis will look really nice, as opposed to looking like TURD when shaders are @ medium. The 8600GT at this point in time has basically become obsolete.

the 8600gt is a mid range card for CASUAL gamers it was never meant to run those crysis games out there, its also there for people who dont have powerful enough PSU saying its obsolete is ignorant..

8600GTS is at a similar price point to the 3850... and the 3850 performs alot better - go figure.

well if you read my post you'd see that i said its for those you dont have a powerful enough PSU to run hd 3850's or 256 8800GT's, it is there to fill that proportion of the market so you cannot say its obsolete
