I literally just overclocked my new QX9770 to 3.8GHz by only changing the multiplier, I even left voltage on auto (I know I know, I monitored it though and it hardly budged). When I went for 4.0GHz then I had stability issues, some manualy tweaking to the voltage has the beast going again. I may try to push it further later tonight. So far thoroughly impressed by this chip, unlocked multipliers rule.

Good job, but if I can get a q6600 @ 3.8ghz, you should be able to go further :P

v8 at stock is about as strong as a TRUE with a decent fan. But the TRUE I mounted 2 110cfm fans on it :)

you reckon? a low end quad would murder it in rendering.

A Core i7 at 4.2 Ghz should humble it.

Actually, I am using a Hyper 212 with dual 2000RPM (push+pull) and AC MX-2. This thing is getting to these high clock speeds under 1.4v. I'm going to try to 4.2 or even 4.4. We'll see, I have confidence it would be stable, I just don't know how much more voltage I'm gonna need.

Good job man. I've got my QX9650 clocked at 4Ghz using the Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme, and under 100% load this baby still struggles to get higher than 60C.

The highest I've seen this is 63C when I was stress testing. So yeah, that sounds about right when we compare where my cooler stands to yours.

That's not that amazing. If you can get it up to 4.4ghz and still have it running cool, that'll be pretty decent.

4.0ghz shouldn't be too tough. Mine hits 3.7ghz at 1.225v, never going above 62C on any core under Prime95 load, and never touching 60C in games.

What, you're selling 955? Shame... Anyway, I don't see why you spent money on that quad when you could have acomplished the same with Q9300. QX9750 is not a beast, it is overpriced because of it's unlocked multiplier and higher frequency so it looks like a beast in price. Why didn't you just get an I7 975? You could get a new mobo and overall it would be the same price, except that 975 would destroy that CPU. But i heard you have connections at Intel, though, so it makes sense to grab anything you can no matter how much it costs ;)

With a good cooler you can get to 4 with Phenom II also. I got it up to 4.01 with some dirt cheap Cooler Master. Imagine what you could do with your. Of course, anything over 3.8 is unreachable without a little more voltage.

Well, yeah, I was just amazed at the fact I was able to get it to 4.0GHz withouth putting any effort into it. It was way too easy. I'm going to try for 4.2 or 4.4 later. [QUOTE="Slig0"]

Yeah, I wouldn't have bought QX9770 over an i7. I got this baby for free (connections indeed) I couldn't imagine paying $1000 for this thing. The Q9300 was a decent little chip, that's what I was using before, I had it overclocked to 3.34 but I needed a whole 1.4v to do it on a weak little 7.5 multiplier. We're talkiing a lot of fine tuning to just about every BIOS setting to get that Q9300 to 3.34GHz, so that fact that this thing is at 4GHz and all I did was touch voltage (and I'm using less too) is impressive.

Now do the right thing and lower the multi 1 notch below stock and clock the FSB to some insane level. Even if you only make it back to the stock overall clock speed it'll be faster than with a multi increase.

I think I'll keep my chipset working at an easy 400MHz FSB. I was already stressing it with my old chip at 444MHz with extra voltage on just about everything.

No not selling it, just putting it into a different computer. I got the i7 and rampage II combo for like $400....and with me doing hd videos on youtube now makes it worth it for the rendering power.
