That's about as surprising as hearing about Stalker or Half Life 2: Ep.2 delays...

WHAT! friken hell.

Im so annoyed. How much do they want to delay it and how many times has it been delayed already. All staff at Nvidia just got told to go on holiday. At least give us a good reason for delay. AMD what the heck is wrong with you.

I'd rather have it delayed and be mind-blowing than be rushed and be lackluster in quality.

Everyone is screaming how mind-blowing it is going to be, at this point I am doubting it.  I am sure it'll be a great card, but while they lose market share to Nvidia (I mean come on, 89xx will be out and the X10 mainstream cards will be out.) during the most important time of this generation it will be hard catching up.  While the enthusiast and early adopters are grabbing X10 hardware there is only one option right now and for seeing future.  Even if AMD's solution is 15% more powerful (not likely in a realist world) it will not be enough except for the hardest core especially since it will be a few months for the inflated prices to drop, and there won't be a mainstream card until some time after.

I really hope this is all just rumors, good competition lowers prices.

Yes. But they have to release it soon to maintain a competitive advantage before the 8900s come out :)

Another link: http://www.techpowerup.com/?25870 I was hoping to see it on March, but hey I understand... since there's really no DX10 games out yet. In fact, I'm glad; that way I'm not tempted to spend more money.

Why would you think it won't?  It is using the same tech as 8800 series in a easier variation to fab.

Oh you want me to give you some worthless speculation like your post?  OK how is this - even if it uses the same tech as the 8800s, because of thier much lower price point they will be selling something like 5 to 6 times more units of the 8600s than they are the 8800s.  Like everything they will not meet their unit build number in time to launch at the date they have published.

Your reasoning is absurd.  If profit margins are larger on the more expensive card I do not think it is 5 to 6 times by your rational.  You are saying a company that is out to make money does not want to sell an item 5 to 1?  Profit is profit.  Nvidia still answers to shareholders.  What do you think they have been doing since the launch of the 8800?  Waiting for Amd?  lol  Nvidia's best interest is get as many next gen cards into peoples PC as possible.

LOL You dont seem to understand things very well, I think you missed the whole point. Who do you think sells the most video cards? Its the pre-built companies like Dell, Gateway, etc. As soon as an affordable DX10 card is out, the 8600s, companies like Dell will offer them in every single system the sell. The 8600GS will be the standard in all there low end models because ALL their models expet for the one with SLI already ship with Vista. Dell even has a system for $349 that ships with Vista! This will account for such an enormous volume increase over the 8800s which they only sell in there highest end models.

Its not that NVIDIA does not want to sell them its that they will not be able to get them made in large enough numbers to meet their launce date. What is hard to understand about that? The 8800s were delayed. Core 2 Duo was delayed, Xbox 360 was delayed, PS3 was delayed.

From the article: “To better align our strategy with current market opportunities, we’ve changed the launch plan for R600. We are going to deliver a competitive configuration to market with an extremely attractive combination of performance, features and pricing, targeting a broader market segment in Q2,” a statement by the company reads. It means this: "We are experiencing development difficulties and issues with BIOS revisions on various platforms"

Nvidia will have 8600s in peoples homes in plenty of time.  http://www.tweaktown.com/news/7055/geforce_8900gtx_and_8950gx2_pricing_and_information/index.html

Who knows though?  It doesn't make sense for Nvidia not to be ready.  88xx was not hard to get at all come launch.  Only reason I can see Nvidia delaying is to try and spoil AMD launch.  Even then, it wouldn't make sense.

What does that link prove?  Its just talking about them like about a dozen other sites.  And its not about making sence.  Its about the reality of meeting deadlines in the manufacturing world.  The reason it wasnt hard to get an 8800 at launch was becuse it had already been delayed once or twice!

The link was validating that not everyone thinks there is or going to be fab issues.

I don't recall the 8800 series being delayed.  I could be wrong, I do not remember Nvidia annoucing a ship date then pulling back.  The 360 wasn't delayed either, again I don't remember Microsoft announcing a ship date then pulling off.  Ps3, yep delayed but most felt the announcement was simply to thwart 360 Launch.

btw, has AMD confirmed this rumor?

Well to tell you the truth, its going to be well worth it, as its alpha stage the R600 or the RX2900(thats right not the XT or PRO or even the XTX versions, so you can imagine) is over-performing (if such a word exists) that stupid 8800GTX ( more than 40% performance gain) that everyone has fallen in love with, just because it the best out now, yet it f-drops in crysis... what a lame card to get for this year... ATi and Amd still have tricks up there sleeves! Take that Nvidia lovers!

Sounds like your pretty jealous you can't afford an 8800GTX. Gotta love haters.
