Wouldn't it be great if driving games in general had engine sounds exactly equal to the real vehicle itself?  I mean any racing game i've played all the engine sounds still seem artificial ,lacking that VERY VERY deep bassy roar of the real thing.  I know that sound has improved over the years but Devs still haven't got it bang on yet and I thinlk that Audio especially in driving games is so important to your suspension in the game.  What do you guys think?

the Gran Turismo series tends to have exact sounds as far as I know, and if you have a really good sound card and good speakers, youll be fine...

I have Gran Turismo 4 for the PS2 and I still think that the car engine sounds are way to light on bass. What I mean is you know people who put huge exhaust pipes on the back of Suberu Imprezas and stuff like that? the big LOUD rumble you get from that. game engine sounds should in my opinion be made to sound as gutsy and realistic as the sound of the actual engine itself, even if devs just recorded the exact pitch etc of the real engine.

do you have a capable subwoofer?  your speakers may not be handling the low frequencies.

it'd be nice if every racing game adjusted exhaust notes depending on headers, intake & exhaust, turbo, sc, etc....

I feel you... Actually GT4 is weak on engine sounds imo. My favorite sim is GTR2 and even that game has average sounds, there are mods, but even then :(. Sadly, the best most realistic sounds schemes are found in the NFS series (since underground), it just seems meaner and more realistic. However, this game is a joke when it comes to handling, more-so when using a steering wheel.

Yeah my Subwoofer is pretty darn good, it's an old one which is part of my Sony Surround Sound Amplifier set which I hook up to my PC and the sub has a max power of about 100 Watts(probably doesn't quite get there though)but, it can certainly pump out very strong ressonated bass.   NFS Most Wanted is the closest game I've heard which can produce a very convincing sound of a V6 engine with i'ts warm, rumbling bass notes it'ed be great if all driving games payed more respect to the audio department.

This turned out to be 'faked'(sound) but I have great hopes for the new LFS version. (graphics are the real thing in this vid) http://youtube.com/watch?v=4iOJ4vRCy1Y

I feel you brother. Just waiting for the authentic "pssst" of a turbo. And of course the mean sound of the WRX's engine....

Yes GTR2 is the most realistic racing game ever made.  But it’s nearly impossible to play well with a controller, you need a wheel.  As much as I love GTR2, Forza is still the best racing game as it is just a lot more fun.  It realistic enough to be very enjoyable and challenging, but can be played at a very high level with a controller which is just not true for GTR2.  I think Forza has better engine sounds that GT4.

Plus Forza online is the best online racing experience I have ever had!!  Forza 2 will be the game that gets me to buy a 360!  Unless of course it doesn’t live up to the first one for some reason.

I have no idea if I'm allowed to bump this thread but I wanna do it.

It seems as if it is REALLY hard, if not impossible, to replicate engine sounds in video games.

Now that is a sounds that no game has even gotten close to replicate. Perhaps I'm wrong and I've just not played the right video games?

No racing game really hit the nail on the head in terms of audio imo, especially external audio.

I'd love to have something like this in a racing game. Would be intense:

Check the date its a old thread. On topic I like to go out to drift events, to stay in the longest curve and get filled with tire. Though I enjoyed my stay at one of the grand prix races I have been too.
