Welcome to the club ;) .

And search out the Catalyst 12.2 drivers - they actually support the HD7970 (yet to receive WHQL, but I haven't encountered any issues).

Well thats good to hear, I was hoping that AMD would get their drivers figured out soon cuz that card with the new design I think has a absolutley massive ammount of untapped potential with more optimized drivers.

I hope you have a headset...my Saphire was bent on arrival (backplate...had to straighten to get it in the computer...not a big deal, but made me mad) and the cooler runs LOUD! Just FYI...however, I've gotten mine to 1125/1575 no problem, and the performance is just nuts! I hope you enjoy!

Another in the 7970 club eh? Congrats ^^ XFX version here P:

Anyone else had an odd pricing clash between the 7970 and 7950 where you live by the way?

where I live (northern Europe) the 7970 and 7950 is near identidal in price (around 20 bucks in difference).

So atleast here you might aswell just go for the 7970 :\ (not that I regret it, a really nice card :D amazes me how cool it is under load ^^)

The price difference between the 2 is about $100 from what I can find on the internet. I went with the 7950 OC Edition because it was still 70 or 80 bucks cheaper than the 7970, and then I overclocked it a bit more and it's giving me the same performance as a 7970, although the 7950 overclocked wouldn't be able to be as good as the 7970 overclocked.

I think the 79XX series will last us a while, especially throwing in CrossFire down the road. Have fun with it!

Well it is worth to mention that every AMD ATI card lasts longer than they are supposed, I mean performance wise not the product failure thing. I was looking at the Syndicate system requirements and the recommended GPU for this game from both rivals was NVIDIA GeForce 545GT / ATI HD4850.

I said come on HD4850, how many years difference with a 545GT?

In it's day the 4850 was reasonably high end. The 545 is a modern low end card. You can't really compare them.

No you don't understand, what I really meant was that why they didn't put something like 8800GTS or 9800GTX, where they went for a low end video card. That is nonsense, because 4850 is something more equivalent to the ones I was mentioning, however this is just an assumption.

so yeah i also dont get what everyone was talking about with respect to noise, Its so far quieter than my old 5830. The highest temp i saw was low 70's so pretty warm but under 80c. The old 5830 had non refrence cooling and from what i can tell was less than half as powerfull and i cant really remember its highest temps but i dont really remember it ever cracking 70 so it was a bit cooler but definatley louder. however with the refrence design the card is totally encased and blowing the heat out of the case, with this design i see 9c temperature reduction in the overall case temp so the other components must appreciat that.

Nice, that's almost the same setup that I have. I have a 23" 1080p monitor, 42" 1080p HDTV, and 5.1 surround system for my PC...
